Hanover's new concert series begins Friday

Hanover’s parks are coming alive this spring with the launch of the County’s first-ever Sounds at Sunset concert series. From April through September, parks across Hanover will transform into lively outdoor venues featuring live music, food trucks, games and beer gardens hosted by local nonprofits.

Sounds at Sunset begins at Pole Green Park this Friday, April 3, at 5:30 p.m. with En’Novation. Concerts take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Some seating is provided, but attendees are allowed to bring their own chairs or blankets. Leashed pets are welcome.

LOVE, history, Hanover

The Hanover County 250 LOVE Sign is surrounded by history along Route 301 in front of the Historic Hanover Courthouse! You can see this traveling marvel on the historic green all week until it's moved to Sounds at Sunset, happening Friday night at Pole Green Park.

Don't worry if you miss it this week though, as "Mater" will be traveling across Hanover County all year long.

Countywide leash law takes effect April 1

Starting April 1, all dogs in Hanover County must be kept on a leash when off their owner’s property. The Countywide mandate remains in effect until June 30.

While Hanover County’s leash law requires all dogs to be leashed year-round in suburban areas, the rule is extended to rural areas in the spring and early summer. This measure helps protect vulnerable newborn farm animals from roaming dogs and reduces the risk of rabies exposure, which tends to increase during this three-month period.

Unleashed dogs found off their owner’s property will be impounded. Owners will be charged a $25 fee for the first violation, with an additional $10 penalty for each subsequent violation within 12 months. A $5 daily boarding fee will also apply.

To report an unleashed dog, call Hanover County Emergency Communications at 804-365-6140. If an animal poses an immediate threat, call 911.
