Wants to go to Tisch

Hello everyone,
This upcoming school year I'll be in the 10th grade. I want to go to Tisch for the Clive Davis program and major as a performance artist. I'm a singer, and I'm getting guitar lessons. I'm currently working on getting vocal lessons and I'm wondering if I should take piano. Are there any classes you guys suggest for me? My grades are A's and B's but I had one C because I was in the hospital which was beyond my control. I have one year of Chinese. I plan on taking Chinese, Japanese, and Hindi as languages. I'm also going to be starting Bharatanatyam classes(a classical Indian dance form). I probably should be taking SAT prep classes soon. I'm totally broke too, so it would be great if I could get a scholarship. I plan on getting a job ASAP to save up for college. What would you guys suggest for me if I want to get in? Thanks for the help

Hello New Yorkers!

What are you doing for New Year's Eve?! I know it's hard to figure out which events are going to be cool and which are going to suck (and, frankly, who wants to wind up in a cab at midnight trying to find the right party?), so what I have for you here is a nice little edited list of great NYE events, tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis:

http://saranewyears2010.com/

The event at the Hotel on Rivington is supposed to be especially hot--everyone from Bloc Group (the guys who organize all these events) is going to be there.

Happy New Year's!!

Love,
Sara

Graduate film admissions

Hi all,

I'll be applying to the graduate filmmaking program this fall. I was wondering if you guys can give me some tips. What are the pros and cons? What was your portfolio like? How do you like the faculty/classmates? How on earth can you afford the monstrous tuition fee?!!!

The thing that throws me off is the personal statement. What are they exactly expecting in a "personal statement"? It seems so vague...Is it like, "Why I belong at NYU?", "What I can bring to the program", etc? or more like, "My visions as a filmmaker"?

A little about me:
-Finishing up my undergrad this year in French Linguistics @ the University of Toronto
-Limited background in filmmaking
-Regretted not applying to the undergraduate program 4 years ago, so here I am!

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advanace :)

sublet wanted for AMAZING apartment

Hello everyone!!

I have the best possible subletting opportunity for you, so please check it out:)

I'm a 21 year old female recent NYU Grad living with another girl of the same statistics, and my adorable cat Oscar, and we're looking for a 3rd sub-leaser for the summer months May 1st thru August 1st (time negotiable - 1 month out of 3 etc) until our 3rd roommate's current lease runs out. We're looking for a female (preferably age 20-30) who is fun, laid-back, and clean to live with us this summer!

The apartment is located in the amazing location of the Upper East Side on 97th and Park Avenue. It's located one block from the 6 Train subway station (14 minutes to Union Sq - 10 minutes if you transfer to the 4 or 5 express at 86th), and two blocks from Central Park -- filled with beautiful men running through the paths haha.

The bedroom is a large 1 bedroom with a window and closet - (9 1/2 x 11 sq feet) within a huge 3 bedroom apartment with two full bathrooms (you would share a bathroom with just me - not my other roommate), a large common area already furnished with tv/couch/etc, and large kitchen with dining room area. The entire apartment was JUST renovated so everything is squeaky clean and brand new. Also EVERY room has a full wall of exposed brick and the floors are all gorgeous cherry wood, with all granite bathrooms.

I'm just moving into this apartment myself and I am SO excited about it:) To tell you a little about us - we're both Tisch Grads who are definitely social but not loud at home, and not home too often because of work/auditions/crazy busy lives. We're also very dependable girls. I'm happy to send photos of the apartment upon request and answer any questions you have. There's also a laundry place directly below us.

The apartment is located on the 2nd floor of a walkup, and heat and hot water are included. It is available unfurnished OR we will put in a twin bed, bookshelf and bedside table.

Rent is incredibly cheap at $725 plus utilities (internet, electricity).

Please send all questions/interests to my email address: carrena at nyu dot edu.

Thanks, hope to hear from you ASAP!
