Original Poem: Too Long
Title: Too Long
Series: Original Poem
Genre: Angst
Rating: PG
Summary: Sometimes lessons come in threes. And sometimes, they come too late.
It too me too long
To learn
The price
Of caring for someone else.
It took me too long
To see
That others
Do not hold the same values as I do.
It took me too long
To realize
That sacrifice
Will destroy the one who is doing it.
It took me too long
To learn
That apathy runs rampant
In the world.
It took me too long
To see
That I care too much
To ever be truly apathetic.
It took me too long
To realize
That it is my selfless ideal
Will destroy me.
Personal Notes: I realized recently that one of my greatest fears is confrontation, and when I had to confront a close friend about a serious issue, I misspoke at one point and was metaphoricially slapped in the face by it. It left me feeling blank and listless, and very much near the point of tears.
After going through a whole day after the event (which took place in the evening), I finally got so frustrated by the whole thing that I just needed to put it down on paper. So that's what I did, in the middle of my Geography class. ^^;; Sometimes specific inspiration for things comes at the oddest of times...
