Hello there! Some of you may know me from being around your wikis, but for those that don't, I'm Lucas, a Community Manager for gaming wikis at Fandom. I've been around wikis in myriad ways for many years, but I believe this is my first ever staff blog here at Community Central. There's a first time for everything!
gamescom, the biggest gaming event of the year, has been taking place this week, and its Opening Night Live was filled with game announcements and brand new trailers for quite a few upcoming projects.
Since we have many lovely video game wikis out there covering these topics, I'm absolutely going to take the opportunity to share them here. If you know of any others or want to share any of our own top moments from the showcase, feel free to comment below.
Without further ado, here are some of the top highlights from gamescom's Opening Night Live 2025!
Black Myth: Zhong Kui
Release date: Unknown (in development)
The biggest surprise of the night was the announcement of Black Myth: Zhong Kui. Currently in early development, it is the follow-up to the award-winning Black Myth: Wukong, released in 2024 to high commercial success, with 20 million copies sold within a month.
According to developer Game Science, it will be a single-player action RPG based on Chinese folk figure Zhong Kui, much like the first game drew inspiration from Sun Wukong and the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West.
A cinematic trailer was shown, but no release date for Zhong Kui is known at the moment, as the game is in early development. Black Myth: Wukong, however, recently launched for Xbox Series X/S on August 20, 2025, previously being exclusive to PC and PS5.
Resident Evil Requiem
Release date: February 27, 2026 • PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Grace Ashcroft is suddenly thrust into mystery in the new trailer for Resident Evil Requiem, which seamlessly blends story twists with a bit of gameplay, adding some context to the announcement trailer from Summer Games Fest, which introduced Grace in an investigator role with the FBI.
Here are some thoughts shared by the Resident Evil Wiki admins on what they hope Requiem will explore:
- Forerunner: "I'm excited to return to Raccoon City, and with Nakanishi (RE7, Revelations 2) at the helm I'm expecting lots of twists and turns. We first learnt of Rhodes Hill where the demo is set back in Resident Evil Outbreak, and that towns near Raccoon City were evacuated. I hope Capcom will show just how dilapidated an abandoned town would look after 30 years."
- Riley Heligo: "Pretty excited to see the remains of Raccoon City considering how long it's been since it was decimated and how Capcom will handle Grace as a whole given her backstory. Hopes? How much of an impact the time has been on Raccoon as a whole and hopefully more references to the other outbreak."
- ParallelTraveler: "The Gamescom trailer was impressive. Grace's anxiety and panic felt very genuine, I was starting to get alarmed from how real the emotions were. My hopes are Grace's story is told well and title “Requiem” is well utilized. I'm expecting a bittersweet ending, can't wait to see where the story brings us."
