First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Estimada/o,

queremos agradecerte por participar en esta primera edición del Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 en Perú. Tu participación ha sido fundamental, junto con 90 contribuidores más, para que podamos lograr las 1514 fotografías de patrimonio cultural peruano que enriquecerá el contenido de Wikipedia sobre nuestra cultura.

Ahora entramos a la parte de evaluación que estará a cargo de nuestro jurado, compuesto por expertos en patrimonio cultural y fotografía. Este proceso durará todo este mes, en consecuencia, tendremos resultados oficiales los primeros días de noviembre.

Felicitaciones! eres una de las/os ganadoras/es!! el jurado de WLM Peru 2016 ha resuelto incluir tu fotografía entre las ganadoras del concurso de este año! Queremos felicitarte y agradecerte infinitamente por tu contribución.

Estamos felices con los resultados de este proceso, finalmente hemos conseguido 1513 fotografías de Patrimonio Cultural del Perú y han participado 91 personas!. Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on 1 May 2023, 23:59:59 UTC.

Dear Organizers, My name is Joris Darlington Quarshie (user: Joris Darlington Quarshie), and I am the Event Coordinator for the Wiki Loves Folklore 2025 (WLF) International campaign.

Wiki Loves Folklore 2025 is a photographic competition highlighting folk culture worldwide. The annual international photography competition is held on Wikimedia Commons between the 1st of February and the 31st of March. This campaign invites photographers and enthusiasts of folk culture globally to showcase their local traditions, festivals, cultural practices, and other folk events by uploading photographs to Wikimedia Commons.

As we celebrate the seventh anniversary of Wiki Loves Folklore, the international team is thrilled to invite Wikimedia affiliates, user groups, and organizations worldwide to host a local edition in their respective countries. This is an opportunity to bring more visibility to the folk culture of your region and contribute valuable content to the internet.

Greetings from the Wiki Loves Folklore International Team! We are excited to announce Wiki Loves Folklore 2025, an international contest on Wikimedia Commons dedicated to capturing the beauty of folklore and intangible cultural heritage from around the world. Whether it’s vibrant folk festivals, traditional dances, soulful music, time-honoured culinary practices, unique attire, oral storytelling, or other cultural treasures, this is your chance to document and share the living heritage that unites us all.

How Can I Contribute?

It’s simple! Grab your camera, smartphone, or recording device, and start capturing photos, videos, or audio that tell the story of your local folklore. Once you’ve collected your media, head over to the Wiki Loves Folklore 2025 page and click on the Upload Now icon to submit your entry. For complete rules and guidelines, please visit our project page on Wikimedia Commons.

What We Won’t Accept

To maintain the integrity of the competition, please note that we will not accept media that are:

Out of the Commons Project scope
Lacking EXIF information
Excessively processed or digitally altered
Pornographic or explicit
Artwork submissions that pose copyright issues

We invite you to celebrate and preserve our rich and diverse folklore traditions. Your contribution will help create a lasting record of our cultural heritage for generations to come.
