Files in Category:3D charts
editUnused files from Category:3D charts and its subcats. 3D charts are misleading and generally should not be used. Most of these are low-quality Excel screenshots but that doesn't excuse the ones in SVG. (I did review this list and save a few that seemed useful: a couple icons, one as an example of a bad chart.) --Apocheir (talk) 22:59, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- Delete. I see two good reasons for getting rid of most of these images:
- As mentioned in the nomination, good use cases for 3D-styled charts are rare.
- Unused charts are often difficult or impossible to reuse. In many cases, there's insufficient information in the content of the file or its description to even tell what a chart is about. Even when that isn't the case, charts frequently lack data sources, or are outdated; it's often easier for an editor to gather fresh data and create a new chart than to find an existing one that's suitable.
- A couple of them appear to (unfortunately) be in use, though. Omphalographer (talk) 03:37, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
- I've removed a few from the list that are in use. I've been using this tool to identify unused files for deletion. Maybe it doesn't consider some wikis or namespaces that it ought to. Apocheir (talk) 00:50, 9 November 2025 (UTC)
- Keep SVG files, especially File:JFreeChart 3D pie chart sample.svg which is being used. vip (talk) 13:13, 8 November 2025 (UTC)
- Withdrew that one since it's in use as an icon on a template on Commons. However I don't think it makes sense to blanket keep SVGs just because of their format: any image format can contain a useless image. At least one of these, File:Ventas1989TaylorSwift.svg, is a Category:Fake SVG too. Apocheir (talk) 22:35, 8 November 2025 (UTC)
- Keep the following files, which are used on project pages, user pages, talk pages, etc:
- No opinion on the others, most of which are unused and some of which are used only in galleries. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 03:43, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- A bunch of these are only in use on old discussion pages, sometimes literally in requests to replace the image, or in long-abandoned user sandboxes. (As an aside, a lot of old enwiki user sandboxes are going to be deleted over the next year or so; see en:Wikipedia:Replacement of CSD U5 FAQ for details.) Any chance you can break these out a little more specifically? Omphalographer (talk) 05:23, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
