Festivids 2024

THANK YOU vidder, for signing up and offering one of these fandoms!! If you already have a vid idea for any of these sources that we matched on, I would love to see it! I am 100% in this for YOU to find a reason to make THAT vid.

If you're looking for ideas or themes, I'm happy to ramble on about these sources and talk about what I love about them. See below :D
Anything I've ever said before in any exchange letter still applies. In case I mentioned something before and failed to mention it again. I have been gifted some absolutely amazing vids in the past ♥ but there's always a sense of wanting more (and more and more and...) when it comes to a beloved source.

Mercy Point (TV)
This was a short-lived (7 episodes) show with a premise that's basically "ER in space". It's very much 90s TV - in the production values, the aspect ratio, the romance subplot, etc. It's also very 90s in that it was rather hopeful about humanity's future. Below is the show intro on YouTube. My favorite characters are Grote and Haylen, but it's a great ensemble and a vid of them all working as a team would be cool.
More about the show here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercy_Point
This source may be difficult to get as I don't think it's streaming on Crackle any longer. My copy is here on dropbox.

Vagrant Queen (TV)
This show is just fun! OMG. It's ridiculous and fun. I love the dysfunctional found-family of Elida, Amae, and Isaac. I also like the canon pairing of Elida/Amae. The saturated look of this show makes everything super comic-book (which is logical as it's based on comics). I'd love a vid that highlights the adventures and weirdness the crew encounters. An action vid would also be fun!

Star Trek: Lower Decks (TV)
This show is flat-out amazing and such a delight to watch. Every vid I've seen for this show makes me smile, so I'm pretty easy to please here.
Things I especially like are all the call-outs from previous Trek shows from guest stars to messy continuity issues and all the trouble the crew gets into.
I love all the main lower decks crew, especially Tendi and Rutherford. I also love Shax/T'Ana because they're so ridiculous. I would love a Tendi vid or maybe a Beckett & Freeman vid highlighting their odd mother-daughter relationship. But again, I really do love so much about this show that it'd be hard to go wrong with your own fav. :)
The trailer below is for season 5, which will be partially through during [community profile] festivids. I'm fine with including or excluding it - no worries either way on my end.

Star Trek: Prodigy (TV)
I love Love LOVE the found family vibe in this series. I love that each of the 'crew' has a character arc over the 2 seasons and they grow together and sometimes grow apart, but at the core remain a team.
Murph is a favorite along with Zero, but all of them together that make for such a lovely show. I also have a soft spot for Janeway from way back, so I love seeing/hearing her in this series.

Lady in the Lake (TV)
Star Wars alums, Natalie Portman & Moses Ingram star in this series set in Baltimore of the 1960's. It's atmospheric and wild and I think the visuals would make for interesting vidding material.
Maddie is a complicated character and her impact on the remnants of Cleo's life show her to be somewhat self-absorbed and oblivious to others even while people in her life seem oblivious to her. Her story is a commentary on several layers of Baltimore (both present and past) and not all of it is flattering.
I would love a character study of either Cleo or Maddie, or a compare and contrast of their story arcs. 'Baltimore' as a character would also be a treat to see and I think the narrative of the book & show can hold that sort of thing up.

Madame Webb (2024) [SAFETY]
I'm not familiar with the comics this is based on, so don't know how true to them the movie is. The movie leans in on the 90's vibe but with added smartphones and Britney Spears music, which I love.
I love the lead is a curmudgeon of a woman who's got this anti-hero vibe going on but it doesn't really work because she's got a pretty strong moral compass and can't resist helping people. And the three young women are delightfully full of snark and mayhem.

Lou (2022) [SAFETY]
This movie is slightly formulaic, but it's a formula that contains good pacing and I like a good action movie sometimes. The hook for me is that it contains a mature woman as an action lead. So anything that highlights her being badass would be lovely!

Fly Me to the Moon (2024) [SAFETY]
Yes, I was drawn in because the framework is around the space program. Honest! I mean, sure there are these two hot leads... *handwaves (LOL)
I am not ashamed to say that sometimes I like a good romcom, especially when Chatum Tanning is involved. He does the romantic lead role in an engaging and somewhat endearing way.
