Any ways to stop getting junk mail from "a better colgate"? My patience for ignorant whining about diversity issues coming from people of privilege (http://www.abettercolgate.com/abou…) is pretty much nonexistent. I figure I get to save a fraction of a tree, they get to save on postage, win-win all around. Emailed last time around about being taken off their list, still getting their literature. Do they have an unsubscribe feature or something on their site that I'm overlooking?

Becky Chopp is leaving.

Wow, it's been like four months since anything was written on here. Sad.

Anyway, I wanted to post 'cause I just heard that Becky Chopp is leaving Colgate, and is going to Swarthmore. _lilia pointed out to me that the picture on the Swarthmore site was taken in front of Case library. Heh.

Guess we'll see who gets to take her spot...

Wei Ren, valedictorian of the class of 2004 and PhD student at the University of Chicago, passed away yesterday. Not sure if any of you knew him, but I had taken a class or two with him my freshman year, and aside from being incredibly smart, he was also a really nice guy. I know there are a lot of people mourning, so I thought I'd post it. There's a FB group in his memory.

I found an article online, but it seems to load only sporadically. Here it is, in full text.Collapse )

Colgate just got a nod in this article. Apparently Colgate is one of the "prominent schools" that form a group that's pushing to lower the drinking age from 21 to 18. Not sure that's what Colgate needs on its campus, but hey, maybe it'd stop the binge drinking.. *shrug*

Colgate gets 3 slots in Princeton Review Rankings

The Princeton Review released its college rankings recently, rating schools from academics to diversity to degree-of-being-a-party-school.

The biggest party schools were huge universities, of course, but Colgaters, be proud (or ashamed): we came in 10th (!) in the "Lots of beer" category.

We also came in 3rd for Most Beautiful Campus, and 18th for the Best College Library (too bad none of us from '07 and earlier got to experience it in anything but its dusty construction phase).

Nalgenes

I know it's been kinda quiet around here, but I wanted to share this link with everyone. As it turns out, people are concerned about their Nalgenes and the potential risks that come with them. According to this article, the ones that have recycling #7 on them are the potentially dangerous ones. I just glanced at my old Colgate one, and it's a #7.

Just thought I'd share...

Transfer Student

Hi All,

I'm a freshman theatre major at a small liberal arts school in Texas. Although my school has a great program for my major, I've found that the academics here just aren't challenging enough, and I want to transfer. Colgate seems to really have what I'm looking for, but I'm a little concerned about something I read on the transfer admissions site. They seem to be saying that if you request need-based financial aid, you will probably not get admitted. Does anyone here know how true this is?  Are there any transfers in this community that could share their experience with requesting financial aid at Colgate? Thanks so much.
