Lakotah People

i've been meaning to make this announcement since late December, but i got caught up in travel plans for the holidays, work, and preparation for school. However, this is such important and exciting news that i had to make sure i came back here and let everybody know about it. In mid-December, the Lakotah People withdrew all of their treaties from the United States. This makes them an autonomous entity within our borders (awesome!), and rumor has it that the entire Sioux Nation is planning on doing the same...

Now, all of this hasn't made big headlines, and i imagine there is some sort of media blackout regarding the People's withdrawal. However, news of this is big amongst indy media sources. If, indeed, the lack of attention to the Lakotah's withdrawal is from some government plan to go in there and quash their independence, i (for one) plan to move to stand in solidarity with the Nation. Please inform your friends and please keep informed.

Notes from May 30 Unity08 conference call

I’m not sure who all was on the line, but the major U08 players included:
  • Doug Bailey, Arlington, VA, former political consultant, co-founder The Hotline.
  • Jim Jonas, Denver, CO. Public affairs consultant and Founder/Partner of Peak Creative Media, CEO of Unity08.
  • Hamilton Jordan, Atlanta, GA. Carter White House Chief of Staff, writer, investor; focused on for-profit and non-profit start-ups.
  • Angus King, Brunswick, ME. Former two-term independent Governor of Maine, teacher, businessman, attorney.
  • James Strock, Scottsdale, AZ. Former California Secretary for Environmental Protection, Author of Theodore Roosevelt on Leadership and Reagan on Leadership.
1. Unity08 has a two-tiered criterion for declaring victory. They obviously know they’re up against a huge challenge in trying to win the White House. Bailey noted (I think it was Bailey - the audio wasn’t great at this point) that they recognize the need to get their nominated ticket on all 50 state ballots, and they also recognize that the two major parties have constructed laws in all states that make it extremely difficult for third parties to get in the game. Denver, CO - A prominent group of centrist political activists who have become disenchanted with the increasing polarization of American politics today launched a new initiative called Unity '08. This effort has as its primary mandate to present voters an "alternative ticket...headed by a woman and/or man from each major party, or by an independent who presents a Unity Team from both parties. By electing a Unity Ticket to the White House, Unity08 plans to force the country’s Democratic and Republican leaders to cease their runaway focus on the issues of outlying special-interest groups and once again align with the aspirations and will of average Americans."

Do you give a fuck about your FREEDOM...? Think about it... It IS getting taken away, bit by bit. This is no longer a "free" country.

I totally understand the need for rules, and boundries- but when our goverment starts telling us the press is not ALLOWED to talk about anything negitive about the goverment, there is a real problem.

So far, it looks as though Bush does better on foreign policy when he's being an isolationist. Maybe he should just stay home and cut taxes for the rich some more, or go expose some CIA agent for political payback against her husband, or just spy on a lot of American pacifists.

Sevral websites are being restricted in Iraq- mostly about democracy, and politics. Sounds to me that the goverment doesnt want the Iraqi people knowing what democracy TRUELY is.

Even if there was an omnipotent being (which of course there isn't), why would people assume that he/she/it is honest and benevolent? If one is capable of anything, one is also capable of deceit, manipulation and opression. Much like political leaders at the top lie and decieve, could not "God" do so as well? The Christian God, if he/she/it existed, could possibly be sadistic and have created humans just to watch them struggle and suffer, and the ten commandments could be one such method, restraining people from various actions that are second nature to them.

Also, a lot of Southern Baptists interpret the bible literally (whereas I see it as a metaphorical story, much like the Odyssey). Does that mean they refuse to have their blood drawn, since "He that sheds man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed?"
