Went to obon in Paia yesterday. Got there in time to get my hands on some yummy sponge drops. Also got shiso rice. Went to karaoke with friends and stayed there till after 2am.
Slept most of the day today. My mom made some dinner. Kalua pig hash and tofu patties with edamame rice. Very good stuff with Stillwells oriental dressing.
Earlier this week, I got Final Fantasy 6 for my iPad mini (I needed retail therapy bc I was home sick on Tues and Weds). I played it before like 10 years ago so it's nostalgia for me. Enjoying it so far and remembering little things here and there.
Reading the 1st book in the Heroes of Olympus series, The Lost Hero. I'm enjoying it even though Percy Jackson isn't in this series, but I know he comes in later on. I'm liking this read and I will continue reading it. Then again, who knows if I'll start reading another book instead.
I'm still listening to the CBS Radio Mystery Theater shows on my iPod. They're interesting and I don't think there's anything current like it. If there is, i might be interested in getting it.
Maybe I'll make this update a weekly thing. No idea if anyone reads this so it'll mostly be for myself.
I haven't updated this since last year and it's been very sporadic. Not too many updates but I will get to what is going on with my life. I tried to sign up for a different blog but I'm just too comfortable with LJ.
So I randomly watched a movie on Netflix the other week entitled The Baby and it was the best movie I've seen in quite a while.
Plot: A social worker investigates a family and their 20-something year old baby.
The "baby" is literally in diapers and crawls and only baby talks. It's a disturbing, but awesomely good psychological horror film. There are some scenes that are mindfucks but it's not graphic, just implied, since it's a PG rated movie. I had to watch this film a second time because it haunted me so much.
Because I don't want to give anything away, I will just say this: if you like films like Whatever Happened To Baby Jane and Mommie Dearest, you are going to enjoy this film.
9/10 Highly recommended
For more details on this movie (including pics), this site is wonderful. There are some spoilers on that site.
I have to mention 11/22/63 by Stephen King. It's one of his non-scary books and has a smidge of romance in it. I know there are people out there who strictly associate SK with horror but a lot of them don't know that he wrote The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. So yes, he does have a sensitive side.
I had started on The Hunger Games, but I realized that I should at least watch Battle Royale because there are very similar books. After watching Battle Royale for the first time a few weeks ago (what??? I can't believe it either), I suddenly wanted to read the book. The book is a bit different in a few scenes, but I think having watched the movie first then reading the book made me appreciate the book more. I honestly think that is the order it should be watched and read in.
Now I'm reading The Locket by Stacey Jay. After that, I will read The Help since someone had recommended it to me. Twice.
Japanese drama-wise, I watched Kaseifu no Mita, which was a dark but touching drama. I started watching Zeni Geba since its a dark drama. Hope it's good...
Doing the butterfly kick is like humping water. That's how it felt like to me, anyway. Hopefully we learn what to do with our arms on Friday.
It was rather nice just to have a few people in our swim class tonight. Just 4 of us. I still missed the others though. Hope they show up on Friday.
In non-swimming news, I still have to finish up my Chrysanthemum Ball mix write up so I can post it some time soon. I think I might type a little tomorrow since I will have free time. Hopefully people like this mix.
And with that, I think I need to sleep. This swimming thing sure is exhausting.
So I've been going to the pool to practice a lot but I'm still not that great at swimming freestyle. I think it's because of my breathing technique and bad stamina.
I have been breathing every other left hand stroke, which I'm ok with for the most part, but I find that I get tired and my lungs get tired as well. Today, I decided to breathe during every left hand stroke and that made it better and I got less out of breath. I was alternating between every 1 and 2 left hand strokes so I will try that tomorrow and wednesday if I can get to the length of the pool without hanging on to the side while catching my breath.
My hour routine today was: 2 laps with the kickboard, 3 (?) laps freestyle with fins, 1.5 laps freestyle, and 0.5 lap back float since I was too tired to freestyle my way back. I also tried to tread water (and failed) and practiced other swimming techniques.
Of course, I had to stop for a few minutes before going back and sometimes had to stop halfway when I ran out of steam. Since I'm such a lazy person, this is the most exercise I've had in YEARS, which is why I'm so out of shape. One day....one day....
Ive been absent for a while now. Nothing has happened other than me going to the pool many times a week PLUS swimming classes.
Tonight was the first time we swam from the 9ft end to the shallow end. I did ok until I swallowed some water and had to choke and stop. Thankfully it was in the shallow area or I would've panicked. I should've used the strategy of doing the freestyle then switching to the backstroke. The freestyle makes me tired out and because of this, I end up not kicking as much and end up sinking a bit, which makes me swallow water. I need to build up my stamina and leg muscles.
I'm such a klutz. After work, I walked down the stairs as I usually do but this time, I fell down the last few steps. It stung like a bitch and afterwards, the bruising began. No idea how it happened but I'm guessing I wasnt paying attention and the heels I was wearing are a bit wobbly because I remember thinking that the heel broke off (it didn't).
Lying down with bandaids on the scrapes now. Maybe I should watch Netflix....
Here's a list of my favorite moments of The 404, my favorite podcast. This will always be updated (and probably needs a bit of cleaning up too!). If anyone wants to add on their favorite moments, please feel free to do so, and I'll add them. :) Easier episode access would be at The 404 Wikia, but I wish it had the current episodes too.
