Trans Woman, adult, Something beautiful is going to happen.

Give Lilly Wachowski Her 10 Fucking Million Dollars To Make A Movie What The Fuck Is Wrong With You You Stupid Cunts Like Hello She Made The Matrix Are You Dumb? Do You Not Like Good Shit?

When people bitch and moan that conservative comedians are getting “cancelled” I want to grab them by the throat and scream at them that the Director of The Matrix One of The Most Successful Action Movies Of All Time can’t get funds for another movie because she’s transgender.

Happy International Butch Appreciation Day!

Do you ever lie awake wondering how the heck Gimli knows what a nervous system is

Clearly dwarves have medical knowledge far more advanced than that of the other races.

His Majesty Dr. Gimli, son of Gloin, Neurosurgeon, M.D.

gimli trying to explain his studies to legolas, a flat-earther

#*scroll down* #*remember that middle earth is canonically flat for elves and round for everyone else* #*scroll back up & smash that reblog button"

tired: legolas took gimli to valinor with him because they were bffs/in love/etc.

wired: legolas took gimli to valinor to prove the world was flat after arguing with him about it for decades

Sorry it’s what to elves

So, in Tolkein lore, the world was originally flat, with most of the land in the middle (hence Middle Earth).  But the Numenorians (men who were rewarded with their own Atlantis-equivalent island for service in the first big war against Melkor, but eventually Power Corrupts etc) tried to invade the uttermost west which was basically Elf Heaven.  To put an end to that sort of thing, the creator of the world Bent The World and made it a sphere…but left elves able to treat it like a flat disk.  So elves can sail west and reach Elf Heaven, but a man or dwarf or hobbit who sails west will eventually wrap around to the east coast of Middle Earth.

If I were to assign Link, the main character from the Legend of Zelda series, a D&D class, what would it be? Not a specific Link, but more holistically. I think the answer is pretty obvious.

He's a 1st Edition bard. You start the games just using a sword and shield (fighter), acquire various specialised tools (thief), and often learn some magic spells (druid). I think most of the Links even play a musical instrument (bard)!

I would also accept paladin due to his devout Christianity.

The Matter of Being is 100% funded!

First, I would like to extend the gratitude of the entire Common Logic team. This project would not be possible without:

  1. The incredibly generous Sixth History license that Weather Factory has created and
  2. The incredibly generous community that has grown up around the Secret Histories.

Almost one year ago I made the dubious decision to drop out of polite society and forsake a consistent salary to make The Matter of Being. I'd gotten around to my thirties, collected a few degrees of questionable utility (linguistics, an MFA disguised as a publishing degree), and racked up a mountain of debt just generally navigating American life. None of it was very satisfying and so, fuck it, I thought. Why not make video games the way I'd always thought about? There were a few abortive attempts, but then came one fateful competition: Blue Ocean Games' Rising Tide. I submitted TMoB's first trailer, and this community showed up in such force that they literally changed the voting rules about it. I think that's when I decided to do this 'for real'.

Since then, you have all shown me an incredible amount of support, and I've been humbled by the talents of Goldstarknight and Shep, who have joined me on this journey to create TMoB's art and music respectively. It's an incredible feeling when you create something and people seem to really *want* it, and although the journey has been very difficult materially, my will to live has been at an all-time high during this whole process.

I share all of this only to really say: Your support means the world to me, I'm so absolutely jazzed that I get to pay my incredible team, and it really feels like this is what I'm supposed to be doing with my life. In exchange, I'm going to work my stupid tail off and deliver the best game I possibly can for everyone who has decided to support us.

With all the personal stuff out of the way, here's what's coming:

  1. I will begin publishing regular development logs on a monthly basis so people can stay abreast of both the game's development, and also to keep track of what is happening with various backer rewards. Many of these rewards are collaborative, and it will be most appropriate to reach out to backers when the development demands new content.
  2. In early September, once Kickstarter starts disbursing, I will re-enable all the glossy Discord features and start reaching out to backers about how they can get their particular rewards fulfilled, particularly if those rewards require shipping or the commissioning of a portrait.
  3. We are continuing to target a Q3 2027 launch, per our Kickstarter details. Obviously there may be slip, but hopefully the demo that you've all had a chance to play shows that *most* of the work remaining is content development. We are planning to make some significant UI and stability improvements yet.
  4. We didn't meet the target for Mac Support, but we're still going to try and swing it. Godot plays nicely on Mac, we just have some filesystem specific hurdles we need to solve.

Thanks again to everyone who has supported us on this journey so far! We're so excited that we get to make this game for you all :)

(And one day, when I'm working with my own IP, I hope I can use it to open up opportunities for others just like this.)

in the contemporary world, the most fundamental human right - and, it often seems, the least protected one - is "being both Allowed and Able to go Somewhere Else." the rest is commentary.

the torments of prison are predicated on Not Letting You Leave. the most terrifying and degrading aspects of childhood are predicated on Not Letting You Leave. misogynists wail and moan and fearmonger about divorce and equal opportunity employment because they Allow Wife To Leave. borders and immigration restrictions exist, in no small part, to Prevent People From Leaving countries where they will be exploited and/or oppressed. fuck you for trying to leave. fuck you for exerting any control over your life whatsoever. that makes you the one at fault, actually.

david graeber described three fundamental freedoms: freedom to move, freedom to disobey orders, and freedom to reorganize social relations

fundamental human right

one time i went to the doctor and said "i think i have some sort of damage in my neck from hurting it on a trampoline as a teen" and the doctor said "no you don't." and i said, "well, the day after i hurt my neck, my bioparents tried to make me climb a mountain because they didn't believe i was hurt, and just a few minutes up the mountain i sat down on the side of the trail because i was in so much pain i couldn't keep walking, and they just left me there, and eventually i forced myself to climb the rest of the mountain because i was terrified they were going to legitimately abandon me on the side of the mountain forever. and i'm here today because it just recently occurred to me that when most people say 'i have a crick in my neck' they mean 'i slept funny and now i'm a little sore' and not 'i'm functionally bedbound at the moment due to severe neck pain'." and the doctor said "you have permanent nerve damage in your neck."
