A review of "The Casual Vacancy" by JK Rowling.

Review of “The Casual Vacancy” by JK Rowling.
Spoilers ahead: Do not read further if you do not want spoilers.

If you are expecting Harry Potter, you will be in for a shock, because this new book has nothing to do with the fairy tale universe of the young adult series. I think it is best to approach this book without misconceptions about the author and her previous work. Blank slate.

Photobucket account

I wanted to let everyone know that I have locked my photobucket account. I have absolutely no problem sharing pictures with Fangirls and I understand that sometimes when making picspam, it is really impractical to credit (unless you want to have a page long list of credits to put down).

However, some people (which, by the way, are probably not fangirls) have downloaded a few of my Dragon Con pictures and put them on commercial sites that are SELLING the pictures to make t-shirts, calendars, prints,or for download etc...
This is pure theft. I will never make money with these pictures, which were taken in a public venue. I find it very disturbing that a couple of very good pictures found their way into commercial sites without my knowledge or authorization.

If you have a photobucket account with excellent pictures (and I know some of you do), I would advise you to watch for this, so that your work is not used for profit by people just looking to make money. I have contacted the websites and reported this so that the photos are removed. This is illegal and copyright infrigement.
Please do not buy any pictures from those websites.

If you would like to access some pictures of my photobucket account, let me know and I will send you an access password.

Thank you for your understanding,

Christine

cancer

In memory of family and friends who have lost the battle with cancer; and in support of the ones who continue to conquer it! Re-post this in your LiveJournal if you know someone who has, had or has been affected by cancer. 93% won't even take the time to copy and paste this. Will you?

I am posting for my mother, who had breast cancer and did survive and my best friend who lung cancer and did not survive... and for the many friends and family who did encounter cancer in their lives.

Poetry: Epiphany

I wrote this a long time ago before the episode of the same name. But, now I think it would apply well to Laura's last moments.

Epiphany

It’s time for me to go.
The sun is dying
In bloody oceans.
The moon in the sky
Slowly fades out.
The wind is blowing
To clear horizons.

It’s time for me to go.
I belong to the sky,
To warm August nights,
To Peridot glowing,
To black swifts and their cries,
To sparrows gliding high.

It’s time for me to go.
Drift wood on sparkling sand,
Love and compassion,
Pure as the whitest snow,
Slides in impatient waves.

It’s time for me to go.
I spread to catch the breeze,
Phoenix turbulent and free,
In many deaths and rebirths.

It’s time for me to go.
In indigo ink, the Milky Way shimmers,
I embrace the wide universe.

It’s time for me to go,
I’ll be water, air and sweet memories.

It’s time…

Iceland

Iceland.
Four in the morning.
The sun kept on flirting with the horizon,
Never deciding to set down.
The air was sharp and the water clear as glass.
The colors had crimson hues turning to mauve,
As the fog settled on the mountains.

It was heavenly....

Evanescence

The pale leaf floats between layers

Of still warm and cooled air

My breath dangles suspended

To the tenuous thread of eternity.

Like a fateful blade,

The official sentence,

Known only from my heart,

Awaits promulgation,

Indifferent.

Like absent-minded whispers,

Seasons come to pass in shallow dreams.

I, cheating reader, snuggled

From the blizzard near a cozy fire,

Stole a few summer words

From the end of the book.

Knowing of the epilogued pain,

I refuse to read more of the unwritten pages.

Like a shadow on a deserted road,

I extend and slip, fading,

My flesh shell failing,

Remaining only by spirit and soul.
