Knight-Commander Shepard, crowned Kingslayer for her dethroning and beheading of a false king, was a woman who brought with her name fear for the unjust and hope for humanity. Through unusual and unwelcome circumstance, she finds herself summoned to the Thessian court, the last on a long list of suitors for the sole heir to the Asari throne. A simple arrangement of political gain for humanity, yet what the Asari gain Shepard can not begin to imagine, much less when she meets her bride, who seems as well versed in people as Shepard herself is in politics.
In the halls of the palace, shadows whisper. The empress is hiding something, Shepard is sure of it, yet her growing feelings put her at a disadvantage, less focused on the political scheming around her and far easier to manipulate for the fascinations of her heart.
