okay, so i had this really weird dream involving theatre at crockett... and how bad it's gotten. I've already heard that most of the "theatre" people have quit, or if they haven't, have seriously been considering it.

so in my dream i went and saw Our Town and it was horrible. (Not to say that it wasn't when they did it last year... i didn't agree with all the directing choices, but the acting was still good)... so I got an idea.

Don't like Knighton? Understandable, I don't either. But don't give up on theatre because of it. I'm pretty sure that there's a difference between a fine arts class (or classes) and CLUBS. Clubs can be student run with a sponser.

START A THEATRE CLUB. Meet after school, on school holidays, whatever. read plays, work on small scenes... I know a lot of people who are in theatre are now into A/V stuff... write your own skits and film them... Micky Baker, Justin Bauer, AJ Ledesma, Adam LeFave, etc etc used to do it all the time if I remember correctly.

You don't have to have a stage to perform- go to the courtyard, or use the cafeteria stage (that's what Price used when she was head of theatre before the PAC was built)... for you techies, challenge yourself! Design sound, rather than just running it... find ways to use lamps and christmas lights for lighting, use nature or simple objects to build sets... we did it all the time with the unit set.

I know its a stretch, but if nothing else, try to get a bunch of people together to play theatre (Whose Line?) type games... make a start!

Talk to Kennedy, I'm sure he'd help, or Gannaway maybe...

DON'T LET GOOD THEATRE DIE AT CROCKETT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know a lot of band people read this journal... PLEASE PLEASE help me out with this! Talk to theatre people you know, give them this link, or print it out, or something... PLEASE.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Well, if anyone reads this, I just wanted to say that I think the Talent Show was much better than last year. I mean, we put a lot of work into it. We got donations, so our winners would be happy about something real instead of a trophy. We met like 10 thousand times to plan this. Kennedy and Grisham were great. I stressed too much. I cried a couple of times before the show. That's just given with the position of presidency. I'm not saying it was perfect, but for the second year and the poor PAC sound system, it was much improved.
I hope others appreciate how much work the PAC workers and the StuCO Talent Show committe put into it.
The winners were
1st, Tye-Shell, Nelso, Art and Jared playing/singing/dancing/goofing off to "The way you Move"
2nd, Lola I think her name was, the tap dancer, she was pretty darn good
3rd, Tye-Shell's solo act
I think they all were very good. I respect those who got on and messed up, because they went on, that takes so much strength. They are all winners in my heart, and I'm not saying this just because I have to, but because it's hard to show A LOT of talent just through five minutes of singing/dancing.
Anyways, I'm rambling.

so yeah, i'm not sure who all still cares to read this, but i'll go ahead and post some stuff going on around crockett lately. unfortunately, i don't know too much about the organizations i'm not involved in, but here's the best i can do.

the crockett drumline competed in a belton contest a couple of weeks ago and received top snares, top basses, and first overall i believe. (correct me if i'm wrong)

the crockett marching band went to UIL last tuesday and was scored unfairly yet again with a 2nd division rating. we did, however give our best performance of the season, which was quite impressive to our fans, whether or not three jerks agreed or not. (bitterness?! of course not...)

the band also went to the rocket review marching contest this saturday in converse, texas. our drumline got best drumline in 5A!!! although the band did not place in the top 3 overall, we scored 2nd in music.

NHS is in the process of inducting new senior members. juniors will not be inducted until the spring.

student council is off to a great start with a new sponsor. most evident of its hard work is the new found spirit here at crockett. signs are painted every week and football players' names are written in chalk around the red walk. pep rally and football game attendance are drastically greater. yellraisers, a new stuco group of nine seniors, lead the crowd in supporting our team.

the courier staff published their first issue in early october.

the golden mask players will present "our town" next week.

homecoming will be november 7 at burger against bowie high. we actually have a chance this year because bowie has only won one game this season! come out and support the coogs!

in other news, crockett has been experiencing severe drug usage problems lately, resulting in a few near fatalities. also, more fights have already occurred among seniors than in the entire year for any other senior class. some people also find it extremely hilarious to pull fire alarms all frickin' day.

seniors are in the process of freaking out about college applications.

sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT next week.

hey there fellow cougars! i'm Katherine and i just joined this community. i'm going to be a senior next year and i'm involved in several different organizations. i play flute and am section leader and band vice president. i'm also assistant editor of the yearbook and participate in UIL journalism and ready writing. i hope everyone is enjoying their summer! seniors c/o 2004!!!

What's up guys??? This place has been kind of ummm... quiet lately. 6 days of school left, excluding days for finals (which I really don't have to worry about)... kinda stressful, end of the year stuff. But soon it will be summer, and we all need a break.
