So the spouse is in Vegas on business till tomorrow night. I wasn't in the mood to cook dinner so I took the kids out for pizza and then decided to head over to the folks for a quick visit. (Plus I had an ulterior motive, I needed to use their printer.) It turned out they were just on their way home from the mall. So we got there first. No big deal, I have keys to the house.
I opened the door, let the kids in, then went to go in myself. You know how you'll push a storm door open then let go and step through? I did that. Unfortunately the door closed to fast and caught me on the inside of my ankle. This has happened before and usually resulted in a bit of a scratch. Not so this time. The bottom corner of the door hit my ankle and DUG in. It hurt like hell. I managed to get inside the door, collapse in pain (cause after digging in, the door whapped me right in the Achilles tendon) and then crawl to the bathroom to get a washcloth. Once I got it cleaned up I realized that yeah, I was going to need some stitches. And since I couldn't remember when the last time I got a tetanus shot was, I was going to need one of them as well.
Fortunately the folks got home and dad took me to the ER while mom took the kids home. At first I thought we were doomed because the ER waiting room was mobbed. But they do a really good job at triage and I was quickly sent to the back to the quick-care area.
The result was just what I thought. Six stitches and a tetanus shot. But we were in and out in about 90 minutes so I can't complain.
