Your child is in Kindergarten. Valentine's DayA holiday (that has religious origins but is mostly celebrated secularly these days) is coming up. It is traditional in your public school for the kids to exchange small gifts, like cards, candy, crafts, etc. with their classmates on this day and a class party takes place on this day. One student in the class comes from a family that does not celebrate this or any other holiday, including birthdays. You know this because your child has mentioned it to you and that child's name was not on the list of names given to each student to use while addressing their gifts. When you double checked with the teachers about that kid's absence from the list, you are told that the kid doesn't celebrate the holiday.
Your kid and this kid are friends and your kid talks about this kid often, but you haven't made contact with the parents.
So... is it rude/disrespectful for your child to give this child a gift?
What should be done with this child during the class party? Should this kid be included in the cookie decorating and craft making? Would it be better to send the kid to the library or something for an alternate activity? Would that be better or worse than having the kid sit out of the activities in the classroom?
Is there a way to handle this in a kind and delicate manner?
We want to make you aware of an important situation with certain Evenflo Discovery® infant seat models that may affect parents and caregivers in California.
As part of Evenflo’s ongoing quality inspections, we discovered that a very small number of Discovery car seats may have been shipped without complete assembly of the release handle located on the back of the seat. Under certain conditions, this may allow the seat to separate from the base, potentially resulting in serious injury. The affected seats were sold at Wal-Mart and Target stores in your area between March 11, 2008 and March 21, 2008.
We have attached an informational flyer with important details for families and individuals who purchased Evenflo Discovery® infant seats between March 11, 2008 and March 21, 2008 in California. Please help us inform these consumers by spreading the word in your area.
Protecting children is our core mission at Evenflo. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact Karen Davis at 212.299.8962 or Cheryl Pellegrino at 212.299.3962.
