I am struck today by the news that my favorite show of all time has been canceled. I was too rapped up in my own existence to remain the loyal fan I have been for many years. I had noticed that the Cheap Seats website wasn't loading when I opened my web browser (it is my homepage) but I dismissed it and went on with my business. Well enough about the sadness of this occasion. I will use this post to dwell on how much I loved that show.
Cheap Seats (CS from here on) affected me deeply. Not only was it an amazingly funny show but it also opened me up to the sports world. I use to be a die hard sports hater. I felt that all sports fans were male chauvinistic pigs but oh no not the Sklars. They love sports but they taught me that I can watch sports and laugh at those crazy people that get way to rapped up in it all.
CS led me to finding other things with the Sklar brothers in it and I am now a huge fan not only of the show but of it's creators. I especially enjoy "Quest for Cooperstown". Although this was a comedy I still followed along with there journey and honestly I kinda wanted Oquendo to make it in the hall fame too by the time the hour was up. I even bought an autographed Oquendo baseball card.
Back to CS, my favorite episode is a toss up between the first spelling bee (Sealfon) and the running of the Bulls. So in solute to the best sports, nah, the best SHOW ever to grace out screen please tell me your favorite CS memory?
I'll be spending my weekend watching VHS tapes of CS.
P.S. Write to ESPN Classics and ask them to release the series on DVD.
