jeweler

I have a ring (from the 1940s) that needs to be resized. Does anyone know of a trustworthy antique jeweler in the city? Or where I should begin looking for one?

Grocery Stores

I'm moving to Irving Park next week and was wondering if there are any grocery stores there that a) have alot of natural/organic/eco friendly products and b) do online shopping and delivery? I have been living in London and did my shopping online. I have 2 small children so no way do I want to be shopping in store!

Also, any thoughts on Irving Park? We're kind of going in there blind. Not having been to Chicago. Hope it's an ok place to live! Bear in mind that London is horrible.

Luxury condo available May 1!

Well here's the deal, I'm being transfered to DC by my job and leaving my fabulous, brand new condo rental with an equally fabulous roommate behind and we need to find a replacement to finish off the lease, it ends on 9/30/07. The lease would start anywhere between 5/01/07 and 6/01/07.
It's a brand-new condo in Rogers Park on the far north side, you'd get the HUGE master bedroom with an ENOURMOUS walk-in closet, with your own bathroom within the master bedroom with granite topped vanity and a large glass enclosed shower done in travertine with a huge separate jacuzzi tub, as well as a parking space in a heated garage. Blinds in the bedroom and bathroom are included.
We have a working granite fireplace, a washer/dryer in our unit, and a dishwasher. Hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances and granite counter-tops and a balcony, and 2 storage units, as well as a rooftop deck, it's amazing, really great for grilling in the summer and watching the Chicago skyline!
We pay for gas (we don't have our own electric meter yet...it's a new building and it's not installed, so free electricity for now!) and cable/phone/internet. Water, trash, sewage, and all association fees are included.
As for public trans, a bus picks you up right outside your door to take you east to the El or West to O'Hare. The Metra train is within walking distance as myself and my roommate to it to work almost every day. So basically you can get anywhere in the city on public trans.
Renewing of lease is an option at the end of the current lease.
Sorry, no pets.

Orrrrr, you could rent the whole place for 1600.00 on May 1st. Take your pick.
Please let me know ASAP! Thanks so much!

Moving in April

Okay. I need to move to Chicago from Indiana on ridiculously short notice. I was hoping (naively) for an affordable studio/l bedroom. However, time is running short and while I have a place where I can crash for a few days, I really need an apartment of my own...so, end babbling...The Point:

I need roommates to rent an apartment with starting in April. I'm aiming for Uptown, maybe Andersonville. My price range is...well, as cheap as I can get. The only luxury I'd really need is internet (I'm not much of a t.v./cable person). I play the flute and have a cat, but I'd do my best to keep these things from annoying the crap out of you. Please don't be crazy. Or, if you must be crazy, be crazy in a "hey I have a bizarre sense of humor" way and not a "the voices tell me to eat your cat" way...that'd be unfortunate...since I only have one cat...okay. Right, so if you or anyone you know is looking for a roommate to get an apartment with in April, let me know.

theater for teens?

My brother is planning his school's 8th grade trip to Chicago. It is a one-day trip and they are hoping to see a show of some sort. It will be a Friday in May and I think it's about 40-50 kids. They're coming from a Catholic school so it has to be kid-friendly, but they're also 8th graders who probably don't consider themselves "kids." Anyone have any age-appropriate ideas that are less than $40/ticket?

moving from England

Hi. My name is Bel. I'm a 25 year old SAHM. My husband and I will be moving to Chicago in June. We are looking for a neighbourhood that is nice and clean and safe with an hour or less commute to the city center. We would like to pay around $1,500 or less for rent although we can afford more if needs be. Just want to save money so we can buy a house within a year. We obviously want to live somewhere appropriate for a family with young children. By looking at rental agencies I'm thinking Rogers Park or Logan Square? However I've only been to Chicago via the airport and once to six flags. Does anyone know how long the commute from those places would take? I'm vaguely familiar with living in the US as I'm from Iowa, but only ever lived with my parents and never on my own. I've lived in England for over 8 years now so I'm a bit confused as to how things work over there. Seems near impossible to find property listings.

Anyone have any suggestions? Any help or advice you could offer would be great. Thanks!

I just moved here from Oklahoma, where birth control (rings) were completely free through something medicare-like. What's the free or cheap way to get birth control here?
