Hashing?
The Hogtown Hash House Harriers came to my ski club's summer promo night last night and I spent a long time talking to them about hashing. It's basically a 4-7k cross country run where one person (the hare) sets a trail of their choosing and then the whole pack attempts to follow it. There are dead ends, false trails, forks, etc and, at about the 2/3 mark, there is a beer check where everyone stops for a drink. lol All this serves to keep the pack together because it slows the faster guys (Front Running Bastards), allowing the slower guys to catch up. Afterward, everyone goes to a pub for more drinks and socialising. Once you've done a few hashes and they feel like they know you, you are given your hash name by which you will be known to other hashers forever after. It's an international running hobby so, if you go on vacation, you can do hashs there and always have a group to run with. Some of the ladies I met last night had traveled to Europe and Australia for hashes.
Anyway, it sounds awesome! Anyone want to try a hash the last week in May? Either the Mon or the Thurs one? It's $5 which includes one drink at the beer check. Anybody can come and you don't have to join anything or be a good runner. There are also women's hashes every other Thurs where anyone can run but the rules of the hash are biased toward women and most of the participants are female. There's one of those on the 20th. http://www.hogtownh3.com
More on hashing because I didn't have a clue either!
