So..Im actually going to a conservatory, and the one that Ive been dreaming of...for way too long on top of that. Woot.
Ive come to realize a few things...like that its impossible to tell how someone is as a player by where they go to school..I mean, I know too many people who go to some small school because of money but got accepted to so many huge conservatories. And visa versa, people who got rejected from Rutgers or Temple for flute but are going off to an incredible conservatory...wtf. Then theres the fact that there are so many people that get into music school every single year...you really have to work to stand out.
Its all about the audition, thats the one big lesson Ive learned from all of this. Talent is really...well, a very small factor. Its about preparation and work, intense academic study of music, and personal reflection of it. I think/hope I am ready to commit to that, and my summer practicing has been incredible since I got back from my week-long stint at Oberlin.
I have sooo much to learn before I get to school...etudes and exercises up the wazoo need to be prepared so that I can focus on my repertoire and excerpts once I get there, and I really have to prepare the audition material for the placement auditions....
But first is my masterclass with Carol Wincenc in two weeks...oh boy, that should be fun. Repertoire is basically ready-Nielsen and Dutilleux, and Paganini #5...Im just terrified to play for that woman.

San Francisco Conservatory of Music-Really nice place, nice setting. Tim Day...is probbaly not a teacher I would love to have...the students don't sound that stellar either....but...it seems like a nice place to go to school.
Eastman-Lovely school, Bonita Boyd is a wonderful teacher. It is in a really cold place though....
Cleveland Institute of music-School is...small as hell, the place sucks, Josh Smith is a cold asshole. Couldn't pay me to go there.
Peabody Conservatory-Ideal.....<33333

Temple University-A real nice place with top notch faculty and a crazy go nuts orchestra....nice
IU Bloomington-Probably choice Number two. Amazing school, amazing teachers...amazing people <333333

lets see...its been a while. I really havent' left my room, practice as per the norm :)
Changed flute teachers...really soon after my last post, wonderful.
Auditions going well....eastman in particular <33333....more 2-3 to come every weekend for the next few weeks...splendid.
Uh psychiatrist says Im obsessive over my music and have OCD....okay...tell me somethign that every classical musician doesn't know about themselves? w/e
yay for almost graduating...and having a MASSIVE case of senioritis...like you don't even know.

Im not...as entirely worried about before, but am still considering pre med as an option....you entirely become a slave to music, not to mention that my parents don't want to let me hire a new teacher...the one that I have now begins every lesson with "so, what are we playign this week?" and continues to say "wonderful wonderful!" throughout..its a waste of money. No, I wasn't passively boasting, she goes through her scheduel as I play, makes notes in some book, and half-listens to me. Its getting old....fast.
I have no time for people.
Audition repertoire....finally finished, but, then again, its never really ever finished.
Maybe I do too much...
Wayy too much school work, hours of practice, and track, cross country, swim team, settlement, latin club and NHS. I think Im going to die. But... I have a paper to write and a trip to the gym tonight...varsity doesn't earn itself. I should be asianm they overachieve, and they don't die from it. Being a white overachiever is too hard.

Im really getting frusterated, and nervous. Practicing 6 hours a day isn't enough. Starting late is impossible. After three years of playing, im just touching the surface of other conservatory students. There are those who have been playing 10+ plus years applying to these schools, and with as much as twenty times my puny repertoire. Im still learning audition pieces...or, well, finishing them, while other people just have to dust off a few old favorites and polish them, and get them ready to send in. Well, what am I doing on livejournal? Ive only hit 4 hours today.

Summer is ending.
Certain things that I wanted to accomplish,. are going to take work if I want them to happen.
Others......are not going to happen :(.
Why do I set summer goals???? they're obviously not going to happen.
Damn the sun.
Damn getting adorably tan.
Damn Ssummer reading.
Damncollege auditions.
Well....I cannot let events stop my progression, best get to work, and get offline I suppose.

oh, and if your initials are A- and -nthony Smith, you will be harassed by countless phone calls tonight, that is my prediction.
