Origin: Chicago, Illinois, USA. Grew up in Jackson, Tennessee

Born: April 1, 1949

He began his recording career in 1970 with the LP Small Talk at 125th and Lenox on the label Flying Dutchman Records with 16 albums to follow. Forty years later. on the 8th of February 2010, he will be releasing his 18th album, I'm New Here, on an independent label, XL Recordings.
