I guess it's time...

Guys, here's my first update in years. I'm alive. I escaped to Texas but I'm back in Laplace, Louisiana now. This entire experience has been surreal. Most of my family lost their homes. I have no idea of the condition of my apartment. It's on the 3rd floor, but the roof could be ripped off for all I know. New Orleans and the surrounding areas are absolutely insane right now. People are looting and stealing everything they see. They've broken into Wal-Marts and stolen guns to rob the surviving people of what little they have left. Tons of people who had houses a couple of days ago are now just wandering around the city like zombies looking for help. Clean water, food, and gasoline are like gold here. We drove to Baton Rouge to buy food and the shelves were completely empty. Baton Rouge wasn't even hit badly by the storm, but all the areas within a 100 mile radius of New Orleans seem to be running out of food and gas. There are still people on rooftops waiting to be rescued and lots of bodies are floating around in the city. Buildings are catching fire and just being left to burn because there's no water pressure to put them out. I won't be allowed back into my part of town until at least Monday, and even then it's supposed to just be temporary. We're supposed to take what we can salvage and leave immediately. I'll likely be living here with my uncle for a while, but I hope I can go back to my place as soon as possible.

I can't tell you how happy it's made me to find out that everyone I know seems to have made it out in time. Cell phones and land-lines are pretty much useless right now, but I think I've gotten confirmation that everyone I care about either evacuated or survived.

This really is an incoherent, babbling mess of an update but it's the best I can manage right now.

Oh yeah, I'm also unemployed now along with thousands of other people around here. Let's all go job hunting together.
