I love mornings when I discover an album that should've caught my eye when it came out (simply b/c of Okkervil River's involvement) - and it turns out to be a beautiful piece of work... CHECK THIS SONG OUT!
In leu of finding a great quality of 'What Is Life?' by George Harrison to post up - I thought I would post up The Monsters of Folk playing a song that feels like it was stolen right from my favorite Beatle's back catalog... Of course they are dressed as KISS which makes it even more odd that a band of folk rockers are playing a George Harrison sound-a-like song... But it's still a great tune...
Monday Muzak is back today... Saturday... Erm... Well, I've got the week off - my girl is up from Texas and I want to be available for whenever she is - so I'll probably do a Monday Muzak for the next several days...
Support professional musicians like Alejandro Escovedo who's been playing music all his life - and never getting real paid - and when he got ill just a few years ago the music community had to pool their resources to get him a new liver... He's back and has put out several albums since - gained the respect of many and just this past week put out one of his finest albums... Street Songs of Love... Go out and purchase it - it's good old rock 'n roll with heart and you'll be supporting someone who doesn't make the millions and at 60 years old is still a valid musician and not a novelty nostalgia act...
It's unfortunate they are labeled as a one hit wonder - Exit the Dragon is one of the coolest albums of the 90's
I remember how my friends and I discussed how Exit the Dragon is probably a theme album and you need to rearrange all the tracks to make them fit - and once you do you'd be blown away... This of course led into the eventual "hey guys did I tell you about the time I sat next to Nash Kato (singer for UO) at a bar up in DeKalb" story that always got a little better each time he told it - and we'd never decide how the tracks were supposed to go - still haven't figured it out... Well, here's to Urge Overkill
