You know you've been away a long time when you realize your avatar is a five-year-old photo. Rachel is officially the age Ethan is in that photo. It's funny how everything is the same and yet so different. The most important part is all is good. I'm happy and healthy, the kids and hubby are happy and healthy.
I've joined the Greensboro Running Club, and the Women's only running group. We started yesterday with an assessment - run a mile, log where you first ran, and then total time to finish a mile. We are training for the Women's Only race in October.
I need to keep track of my miles, time, etc., so I'll use my friendly LJ.
Saturday, July 17 - mile finished in 11:27, did not walk. (love the flat track! our neighborhood is a b*tch to run thanks to the hills - almost no flat parts at all).
I ran in another 5K on Saturday - I had my best time yet at 35:36 (previous 5K was 37:30). I didn't feel like I did well and had to walk a few times, but only for a short distance.
My goals are to keep up with the shorter distances - 5K and less -- and work on speed. I'm such a slowpoke.
Weight is about the same, but I can tell I'm losing inches.
I DID IT!!! I ran 6.2 miles in the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston, SC. I ran it in 1:16:50, which beats my previous 6 mile time by seven minutes. I'm so extremely proud of myself, and excited. I ran all but a few hundred yards. We got bunched up on the bridge, so a lot of people crammed into one small area! There were 34,000 people who finished the race, and nearly 36,000 who started. It was insane, but good insane. I felt like I was part of a much larger thing - just inspiring and exciting.
I'm running in my very-first 10K on Saturday in Charleston. It's the Cooper River Bridge Run -- I'm so excited and nervous. There will be 38,000 other runners running, so it will be really chaotic. I don't like crowds very much, but it will be worth it. I'm going with six other girls, and we are renting a condo on the beach in Isle of Palms. Of course, Saturday night will be party night.
I've never been on a girl's weekend like this before. Will have to post photos and my time! I'm hoping to finish in 1:15. My best six miles (or rather, my only six miles) was 1:20.
Gosh, not sure where to begin. Life is good. I guess that's a good place, huh? Thanksgiving was a whirlwind of chaos and fun, and I would not have it any other way. We packed up and headed to Topsail Island, where Mom and Dad sprung for a 5,000 sq ft. beach house. I will see if I can get some photos of the kids uploaded soon. I'm embarrassed by how old the photo is on my icon. Rachel is nearly 2 1/2 now, if you can believe it.
Geesh, where to begin. I'm doing well in school. I finished up Intro to Micro with a big, giant, fat A. Now it's the second half of Micro, as well as A&P and Intro to Medical Lab Tech. I love the program, and I'm excited about it. I'll start clinicals last summer '10.
Kids are great -- Rachel talks so well, it's kind of scary. Ethan is doing well in second grade. Everyone had the swine flu (I think) and it was not bad. Either that or they had it pretty mild.
I need to post some photos.. maybe after Halloween.
I've learned more about bacteria in the past three weeks than I ever thought possible. What is scary is this is only the tip of the iceberg. I will build myself a bubble in outer mongolia and stay there, forever.
Quick update - * Gram died July 25. I miss her more every day. I really want to post some fun things about her and just can't yet. ALS is a horrific disease. * Turned 34 years old. How is that possible? * Spent the birthday weekend in Atlanta. It was HOT but fun. If you are on facebook, my name is Cathy Gilkey - photos are on there. Will try to upload later. * I'm starting classes at Davidson Community College here in NC on Monday. I'm majoring in Medical Laboratory Tech. Go me! * Kids are great - Ethan starts school on the 25th, and Rachel starts preschool (we took her out of daycare but she will go to preschool the same place she went to daycare) on Sept. 1. Just two days a week. * Drove more than 2,000 miles in less than two weeks. I drove by myself to NY for the memorial service, then came back and picked up the kids and took them to the beach, by myself, for a few days. Jim had to work, and I did not want to sit around the house. It was fun - we met up with my cousin and her two girls.
I ran the 5K in 37 min, 59 sec., and finished in 402 out of 440.
Didn't exactly tear up that race course, but I finished, and finished under 40 min., which is what I was hoping for. It's my best time for a 5K by far.
I think I want to do it again, but my body is saying noooo....
