you're not supposed to wander around appalachia at night bc you'll fall off a sheer drop that you couldn't see coming. this is also a major risk during the day. you really have to watch out for the sheer drops that you don't see coming due to the undergrowth. I suspect 100% of spooky missing persons cases in appalachia have the spooky explanation of "sheer drop disguised by undergrowth"

really cannot overstate how many utterly invisible ravines we got here and also how big the woods are. they can't find people because the woods? are big

dorksidefiker

#yeah a lot of ''people went in those woods and never came out'' is like. bro they got lost. and probably got eaten by bears/wolves/coyotes

Honestly, exposure after getting stuck in a crevasse is the more likely culprit. Wild animals aren't going to go anywhere near a live human unless they're sick or desperate.

Wild caught clownfish will be like ‘hm you see, the anemone you got me is a slightly different color and tentacle width than the one I had back home, so I will not begin hosting it. I’ll be a sort of wandering ronin for the rest of my days.’ And then a captive bred clownfish will be like ‘ok so I have this curved rock I found and I just sit above it and it take care of me 👍’

if you read my recall posts and think "wow, it feels like there is a recall at least once a week in the US these days" you are completely wrong

there are recalls every single day in the united states. please do not rely on one charming tumblr user to tell you about every one of the dozens of recalls that can happen in one single american day. I absolutely cannot even post about a tenth of the recalls that happen in the US.

I link to every official affiliated agency and official recall announcement on every one of my recall posts because I want you to be looking at the actual real official recall feeds and not just my rebloggabale edutainment posts where I also talk about international popsicle titles and cool internet comics

I know you have an internet connection

🇺🇸 in the past month alone (july 22 2026 to august 22 2026 whenever I started typing) there have been 🇺🇸:

there have been over 500 fucking US recall entries published in the past month, and more since I started typing this post. this is not a comprehensive list of every source for US recalls, recall entries, or public safety publications.

I say recall "entries" because one single recall entry can contain hundreds of recalled products/models/flavors/codes/batches/lots/etc. if you wanted to count all of those individually, it would be somewhere between THOUSANDS and TENS OF THOUSANDS of recalls. in one month!

each of my big circulating rune style tumblr posts about recalls, outbreaks, safety alerts, etc takes ~3 to 12+ hours to research, write, edit, alt text, arrange, format, proofread, source, and then hit post. not including breaks. this post alone took 3-4 hours.

listen, you fucking rock. I enjoy spending time with you. we have a lot of fun together. I tell great jokes. sometimes you make me laugh too.

but I physically can not post about even 1% of all recalls and safety alerts in the US, let alone anywhere else in the world.

so do me this favor: if recalls or safety publications in the US are relevant to you at all, bookmark some of the links in this post and check them every now and then. once a week, once a month, once a year, whatever you can manage. maybe even sign up for some alerts.

you must not rely on my posts, anyone else's posts, social media as a whole, or even news outlets to keep up with recalls in the US. if you want to keep up with recalls/outbreaks/safety alerts/etc in the US, you need to follow official government sources.

every horror writer in history wanted what the 19th floor subplot in the Wayside School books had

Also the gentlemen with the black attaché case who offer you the choice between being safe or being free and the dead rats who live in the basement.

I have no idea what Wayside School is

quasi-normalcy

It’s a trilogy of absurdist children’s novels published by Louis Sachar (the author of Holes) about a school that was supposed to be one storey with thirty rooms but is actually thirty storeys with a room on each floor because the builders were holding the plans sideways (and apparently this is how architecture works). Each book consists of a series of thirty loosely interrelated short stories about the students on the thirtieth floor, and there are a bunch of weird anomalous things that become running gags throughout the novels and, actually, now that I think about it, I can definitely see how Night Vale would have been inspired by this
