Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk has a new organ

I was in my home town of Santa Cruz, California, last weekend, and discovered that they've recently moved in a Wurlitzer Style 165 from 1918 to accompany their 1911 Looff Carousel. Apparently, they will continue also to use their 1894 Ruth und Sohn (which is in for repairs currently) as well as a Wurlitzer 146 they just bought. I don't know yet how they'll manage it, but I would guess they'll rotate them in and out every few days rather than have all three of them there at once.

Anyway, I shot video of the 165 and the carousel, including a ride on the carousel itself.

They'd also recently moved in a Laffing Sal with the original audio track, so I shot video of that too.

Nunley's Carousel

This is a video report I did on my TV show back in 1995 about a historic carousel that was part of a suburban amusement park due to be put on the auction block a few weeks later.

The auction was cancelled when the County of Nassau NY condemmed the place so it could negotiate a fixed price to buy the ride for placement in a public location. After several factions lobbied to get the carousel for their own villages over the past decade, it was recently finally decided that Nunley's carousel would become part of the county's Museum Row between the Cradle of Aviation Museum and Nassau County Children's Museum.

A private fundraising effort has been underway to raise money to pay for the carousel's restoration. Visit Pennies for Ponies to see how you can help.

Greenfield Village Carousel

While I'm on a roll, I might as well finish posting the other carousel pictures I have lying around in my web space. These are from the Herschell-Spillman carousel at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. I can't remember when these are from, but probably a few years ago. My visit to this carousel as a child was part of what started my fascination with carousels (the other was an article in Highlights magazine). I still like this carousel a lot because it is kept in such good condition, but it is a little dull to ride because they operate it so very slowly. Unfortunately this seems to be a common problem with carousels these days.

All the pictures I have been posting were taken by my husband, luckybunny007, by the way.

Indianapolis Zoo carousel

Hello everyone. I just discovered this community thanks to beetlebomb. I have a nearly lifelong fascination with carousels. I am also interested in roller coasters and amusement parks in general. I have lots of pictures of carousels I have visited, and will post them when I have a chance to dig them up. Here are some pictures of the Indianapolis Zoo carousel that I took earlier this summer. It was carved by local artisans.

Woodbine Centre

Janette lent me her disc so I could post these pictures of the carousel at Woodbine Centre.

IT is a Looff mechanism, formerly the carousel from Redondo Beach, California. The original animals all went off to various collectors. These are fiberglass Bradley & Kaye (now Chance) horses...
