1. The Verge: Meta will use your activity on other websites to personalize your feeds. There's an existing privacy setting that's being removed, so you need to login to select the new equivalent or they will default you to the worst privacy option. The Verge doesn't tell you how to find this setting, but I found it via a help page:Read more... )

2. 5calls script asking senators not to vote for KOSA/KIDS Act.

Political RPF, etc.

1. I just found the worst disclaimer on a fanfic: Я ничего не пропагандирую.ЛБГТ является запрещённой,экстремистской организацией на территории Российской Федерации. Употребление наркотиков и алкоголя вредно для здоровья. (I am not promoting anything. The LGBT movement is a banned, extremist organization within the Russian Federation.)

2. Which countries actually ban/block AO3 came up again in a Fansplaining thinkpiece recently and sent me on another furious Google expedition. It's harder to search the Internet every year, but I can't find anything definitive beyond China and Russia (both incidents reported in the media, one even has a website helpfully listing the URLs they block, thanks, Russia!). There have been various claims that the UAE has blocked or unblocked AO3 going back to 2020, but I think this is because users know UAE censors the Internet and when they can't reach AO3 they assume the worst. (I don't know how Internet censorship works in the UAE.) I matched several recent Twitter rumors about supposed AO3 blocks in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the UAE against Cloudflare outages: see ao3org.tumblr.com. Based on what happened in China and Russia, I'm guessing the likelihood of a ban increases as the userbase in that country increases, so if the website is not widely known/used there you're probably fine? But on the other hand, if it does get blocked and there aren't many users, no one will notice either way. (And the websites people might use to complain about the block are probably blocked too.) (And people will complain in their own languages, which I can't easily search for.) ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

3. Fanlore editing: I created stubs for Justin Trudeau, Emmanuel Macron, Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and added information to the existing Putin/Trump article. So far my documentation of political RPF has been very masculine- and Euro-American-focused, but on the other hand, I'm not sure whether this is the sort of representation anyone is particularly eager to have. Belatedly I started to wonder whether filling in this information, however blandly I phrased it, would get me put on a list somewhere....
