As some of you are now aware, we’ve had a minor hiccup, which is now mostly fixed. We now have a new email address: caprbb at gmail dot com - please add it to your address book so it doesn’t bounce and you receive our notifications.
Please be patient with us while we sort out any residual issues and get ready for claims.
We’ve received several queries of a similar nature and they’re mostly questions we have answered before. Please read through previous #FAQ and #Answered posts to check whether we’ve already addressed your query:
- What happens to unclaimed art / what happens if all art is claimed but there are still authors who missed out?
Artists have the option of removing unclaimed art from the pool if they wish, but we will do our best to ensure each piece finds a writer, including contacting our volunteer pinch-hitters. (Sign up to be a pinch-hitter here)
If all art is claimed and there are authors still keen to claim, we will be offering a selection of art for a second round of claims. The selection will be opt-in only so artists will be able to decide if they’d like to participate.
- Can we change the claims time?
No, we are unable to change the time claims open, which is at 9PM PST 4th March. If you are unable to be present when claims open and are concerned that you may miss out on your preferred art, please ask a proxy to submit a claim on your behalf. You can forward them the link to the Claims Form which was emailed to all signed-up Authors, and give them a list of your preferences so they can claim on your behalf.
If you are unable to find a proxy, we can find one for you. Email us on caprbb at gmail dot com for more information about proxy claiming or to organise a proxy to claim on your behalf.
Check our Claims Info post to see what information is required in the form so you can prepare your responses ahead of time.
- Can I pick less than 10 pieces?
The claim form will require 3 choices before you can submit. The remaining 7 are optional.
YOU ARE ONLY CLAIMING ONE PIECE OF ART. We will assign you your highest preference still available at the time we receive your claim form. This is why making a selection of more than 3 is advisable.
- Can I claim in advance/where is the claim form?
We emailed a link to the Claim Form to all signed-up Authors. Please email us on caprbb at gmail dot com if you have not received the link. The form is currently closed, but will be opened for submission promptly at 9PM PST 4th March. You can not make claims in advance. Claims will be first come, first served, using timestamped form submission.
The Art Preview Document will be a Google Slides PPT that is shared with all signed-up participants. Since author sign-ups close on March 4th 6PM PST, even very late sign-ups will receive the document preview before Claims open at 9PM PST.
Here’s what the Preview Document will look like:
(imagine beautiful art where those blue rectangles are!)
On the left are the thumbnails, of each slide, which will allow you to scroll through quickly. On the right is the slide you have selected, which will include the art, notes from the artist indicating notes and preferred shipping and maturity rating. On the bottom is an imgur link to see the artwork at full resolution.
Notes:
NSFW submissions will be shown as a crop, with a link to see the full NSFW image.
The order will be randomized. We will not be sorting by ships or medium. We are a RBB that is friendly to all ships and encourage authors to use their discretion to scroll past entries which are not of interest to them. (See fuller explanation here)
We will be creating a secondary Google Spreadsheet that will allow authors to create filter views and sort by canon, pairing, and rating. It will be text only, and you will have to click on the imgur links to view the images. We will not be updating this spreadsheet come claims time.
Between March 1st and March 4th, we encourage you to look through the previews doc and make a list of artworks that you’d want to write for, and rank them in order of preference. You will be claiming the artworks by their assigned number, so instead of “that cute prewar Stucky one”, you’ll write down its number instead. If you are excited and want to get other author friends to join in, they still have time to sign up and gain access to the preview document.
After being prompted for your username and email, you will be asked to list your top art choices by number. Please don’t write “the mermaid AU one”, we won’t know what that is! (You will be asked to list at least three choices. The total number of available preferences will depend on how many final artworks have been submitted for claims.) All claims entries are timestamped to ensure fairness in our first come, first served process.
How will I know which ones have already been claimed?
There are two ways! We will be working hard keeping the preview doc updated. Claimed pieces will get a gray background, like so:
(In the above screenshot, Artworks #2, 5, and 7 have been claimed)
We have also created a filter view of the claims spreadsheet that will be automatically updated and sorted from low to high, so that you can quickly scan and see what’s already been claimed.
How will I know which of my preferences I’ve claimed?
After you hit “Submit” you can go to the Claims Spreadsheet and watch the claims happen in real time! We will be moving row-by-row down the spreadsheet, highlighting the first of each author’s preferences that hasn’t yet been claimed. You can also wait for an email confirmation.
What if all of my choices have been claimed? Can I resubmit?
We will send you an email, asking for a re-submission which will be given priority at the time it is received.
What happens if there is unclaimed art?
Firstly, artists are free to remove unclaimed art from the RBB. Some artists who are submitting 2 or 3 pieces might choose to post their unclaimed art independently instead of waiting for a delayed claim. We will also be asking any signed-up authors who have not made a claim and anyone signed up as a pinch-hitter to view the unclaimed art and see if there is anything they’d like to write for. We will do our best to ensure every art gets a story.
What happens if there are more authors than artworks?
After all of the artworks have been claimed once, we will ask the artists if they want any of their pieces to be made available for a second round of claims. Those pieces will then go through a second round, with a separate preview doc and claims form.
We hope this clarifies the claims process, and we’ve looking forward to sharing the art with you on March 1st!
Art pieces are due Sat February 25th, and can be submitted at any time beforehand.
Submissions must be emailed to the mods at capreversebb at gmail dot com along with the following information in the body of your email:
Artist username: (the one you signed up with) Profile url: Art number: (1 or 2) Art title: (optional) Art Rating: (G / PG / M / NC-17) Suggested pairing(s): (optional) Captain America Canon: (MCU or Comic book) Desired highest fic rating: (G / PG / M / NC-17) Additional details/requests: (optional)
Art encompasses (but is not limited to) drawn or painted artwork (both traditional and digital), comics, digital manips, fanvids and fanmixes. Craft is welcome as long as the final piece can be photographed and submitted to us via email as an image.
Submitted art files must be at least 400 by 600 pixels in size. Fanvids must be at least one minute in length. Submitted artwork should be at least 75% completed, with enough detail that authors can clearly make out what’s going on in your picture and make an informed choice when claiming.
Currently we are accepting up to 2 pieces per artist. However, if an artist feels they’re clearly going to be done with their 2 pieces before the art submission deadline and has the inclination to work on a #3 piece, we will accept it provided that piece #1 is 100% completed and all 3 pieces are submitted before deadline.
Fanmixes must contain at least 8 tracks as well as front and back cover art (minimum size 500 x 500 pixels). Fanmixes must be 100% complete for submission. A download link must be included with your fanmix submission (it will not be held until claims and then sent to the author who has claimed it).
If you haven’t signed up yet, what are you waiting for! The sign-up post for Artists, Authors, Betas and Pinch-Hitters is right here<– (click link)
PM or email us with any queries about this process and happy arting!
We have started receiving your art submissions and they’re amazing!
A reminder: Claiming will be anonymous. We would like to encourage all artists to submit their work unsigned - only the participating authors and artists will be able to see it in the preview document. However, if you prefer to sign your submissions, please note that we will obscure the signatures for the purpose of anonymity during the preview and claiming process. After the claims process, artists are free to sign their work for the final posting.
Welcome to the 2017 CAP Reverse Big Bang challenge Prompt Post!
You don't have to be a participant of the challenge to contribute and leave a prompt, anyone and everyone is welcome to do so.
If you have an idea, share it here for artists to peruse. Artists are free to use prompts in any way they wish, taking part of a prompt or altering it in any way they like or mixing it up with ideas from another prompt - this post is to help generate ideas and help artists brainstorm.
NB: This is not a request post. Your prompt may be used in whole in part to generate ideas, or may not be used at all.
One idea per comment please! You can leave as many comments as you like.
Anonymous comments are allowed. We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that we are open to and inclusive of all the Captain America characters and ships, and that absolutely no shipshaming or kinkshaming will be tolerated. Please respect each other and the all-inclusive tone of the challenge when leaving your prompts and thank you for contributing!
Art encompasses (but is not limited to) drawn or painted artwork (both traditional and digital), comics, digital manips, fanmixes and fanvids. Craft is welcome as long as the final piece can be photographed and submitted to us via email as an image. If you have an unconventional idea for your artwork, please email the mods at capreversebb at gmail dot com to discuss. Submission info can be found in our FAQ.
Artists may submit up to two separate pieces of art for this challenge to be claimed separately by two different authors.
Signed-up Authors will be invited to view art submissions in a preview document and to claim a piece of art to inspire their story.
Authors are then expected to write a story (minimum of 5,000 words) featuring elements from the artwork. If there is a pairing specifically shown or suggested in the art you claim, then that is the pairing you are agreeing to write for.
This form is for anyone willing to Pinch-hit and write a story at short notice in case an author drops out part way through the challenge.
Pinch-hitter sign-ups will not close. You do not have to sign up as a participant in the challenge to become a pinch-hitter. The sign-up form will request your contact details and the characters/pairings you are willing to write as well as asking you to list anything you would prefer not to write. The sign-up form is no-obligation and only so we know how to contact you in case we need your help in future.
This form is for anyone willing to provide beta services for reversebang participants.
Beta sign-ups will not close. You do not have to sign up as a participant in the challenge to become a beta. The sign-up form will request your contact details and the characters/pairings you are willing to beta as well as asking you to list anything you would prefer not to beta. This information will be compiled in a locked spreadsheet for signed-up participants only so authors can contact you directly to check if you’re available and request a beta if they need help.
What is a Reverse Big Bang? A Reverse Big Bang is literally that: a reverse of the Big Bang challenge. The participating artists create a piece of art, which is posted anonymously for authors to view and claim. The authors will then write a fic based on the art they chose.
Which characters and pairings are eligible? This challenge is open to all genres and all pairings or can be Gen, as long as one of the central characters is from the Captain America canons, whether that’s Marvel comic book canon or the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Crossovers are not permitted as we cannot guarantee you will find an author who is familiar with the non-Cap fandom. Because this challenge is open to and inclusive of all the Captain America characters and ships, we would like to remind all participants that absolutely no shipshaming or kinkshaming will be tolerated. Please respect each other and the all-inclusive tone of the challenge.
