Canadian Winter

Today is Family Day in Ontario. It was created a few years ago and meant as a day off to spend with your loved ones. This year, it happened to fall on the day after Valentine's Day - Feb 15th and created a long weekend for most.

Cam and I started the day off late, sleeping in, then just bumming around the house. We surfed the net and watched the Olympics. Cabin fever started to set in so we decided to take a walk north to Summerhill and St. Clair area.

First we passed by Petite Thuet for macaroons. Cam also had a white and dark chocolate dipped strawberry. The macaroons were much better than the ones we usually get down the street at Patachou. They're pricey but so worth it.

Next we stopped by Hero Burger for a very late (4PM!) lunch. I had the Slim burger - 4oz Angus Beef patty with garlic mayo, red onions, and tomatoes between multigrain 'slim' buns. Delicious.

Then on to our walk....

New Kitties! Warden & Abigail

Cam and I went to the Toronto Humane Society on Dec 27th to adopt a pair of cats. Mimi is now with my mom permanently and we've been missing the company. We decided to adopt a pair as my one regret with Mimi was not adopting a buddy for him when he was younger and secondly, we knew that bonded pairs have the hardest time getting adopted.

We saw a pair of beautiful cats named Kiwi and Sterling. I totally fell in love with Kiwi but after learning they were semi-feral (they had been domesticated but unfortunately, their adoptive owner passed away) we knew our one bedroom apartment wouldn't be the right environment for them.

Our next obvious choice was Warden and Abigail. Warden was just so lovable...a totally ham! Abigail was such a pretty girl. We brought them home and it was absolute LOVE! They are such characters! Abigail is a total girl....very skittish but also playful and curious. She will come for some petting if she sees Warden getting them but otherwise, she runs away from you. She's such a little lady. Warden on the other had reminds me of a big teddy bear. Follows you around for attention, loves belly rubs, and walks like a bulldog because he's so big.

Here's some photos of them. Unfortunately, only one of Abby as she's shy.

I'm Blue!

This is the first time in over 5 years (since I started dying my hair in 1st year university) that I have gone back to black. I cheated though, I went for blue-black instead. I'm loving it, though! It's definitely a huge change from anything I've had so far.

A Peak At My Apartment

Rearranged the room a little. The sofa used to be against the low book shelf with the two armchairs facing it across the coffee table. Now the sofa faces the TV with the two armchairs on either side. We used to have a tall (4 shelved) bookcase as a divider but that's been moved to up against the wall (that I'm standing against to take this photo) and this is in its place. This place feels more airy this way.

Our kitchen is absolutely bangin' now! We got a stainless steel worktable from Ikea. I do want to wait until we get the matching floating shelves and racks up, the paint all finished and the trims done before I photograph that. Then once that's done, it'll be on to the washroom.

The MAC PowerBook G4 that I bought 3 years ago is dying. Cam and I went to check out new laptops today but I just thought about it again and realized I really shouldn't be spending the money, especially with Christmas coming!

Instead we went to see a foreign film (French), supposedly about a serial killer taxi driver who offs several people. It turned out to be about a hit man who becomes emotionally involved in a job. Actually ended up being quite interesting.

We went for dinner at Milestones afterwards and had a great dinner. We started with the Dry Rub Cured Ribs. Cam had the Steak and Shrimp special and I had the Californian Burger with yam fries - the burger had bacon and a delicious avocado salsa. Afterwards, we bought gelato for dessert. Cam had Egg Nog (yuck!) and Chocolate Fudge. I had Creme Brulee...I guess keeping with the French theme and all.

I brought my camera with me to take photos but I only ended up with the one above of the patio at Milestones. I really want to get back into photography but I'm finding it so hard. Ever since I started my office job, I have not been able to get the creative juices flowing...no matter how hard I try! It's like all the endless office tasks have made me a drone. I have really become a cubicle slave....no mind of my own.

Back to work tomorrow. It's going to be insane. I work with American clients who had Thanksgiving and Black Friday last week so all the work has been piling up for the first day back to work - Tomorrow!
