Considering a career with the CF...

I'd be interested in Naval Communicator (flag semaphore!) or Communicator Research Operator (foreign languages!) I have a talent for mastering new and exotic languages within weeks, which is why the latter is appealing. Neither of the two are listed on their "in demand" list though, so it may be hard to get in.

Does anybody know which officer career supervises the Naval Communicators?

Signal Operator looks cool too, but it seems like it's more field work than office work. I prefer a balance of both. Naval Electronic Sensor Operator looks very interesting, but it doesn't seem to have any civilian equivalents, if I ever want to take the skills into the civilian world.

Hey, I'm ALisa.

22, living in Ottawa.

I've been talking with a friend of mine about going for basic for a while now. To pay off our student loans and such. I've givin it more thought as of late, and decided that I'm actually going to go through with it. I'm pretty excited! :]

I'm either going to wait until I go back/graduate from school, or just say screw school and join the forces. I'm leaning towards just joining.

I'd like to go for Imagery Tech. Is anyone on here one?

I've got a couple questions about applying and such aswell.

1. How long did you end up waiting before your application went though?
2. Is the list of jobs you can do determined by your apptitude test? And do they have different tests for different trades?
3. And just for fun, what made you decide to join? :]

Figured I'd drop in and say hello.

Name's Janice, 21 years old, joined the navy as a hull tech. My enrollment ceremony is tomorrow. I leave for basic on the 12th of July, and damn I'm stoked for it all.

Anyways, I'm always open to making new lj friends, and I'm woefully lacking in acquaintances within the forces at the moment, so if anyone wants to add me go ahead.

Applying for reserves and starting college?

Hi everyone!

I want to apply for the reserves (I'm thinking of Armoured Soldier or Infantry). Now I have my high school deploma and am just in high school for a fifth year. I also have about six months to get in shape, starting in January, before I think I should apply to the reserve unit I want to join. I think four months is a good time for an application to get through. Anyway, I'm having minor surgery in July (it's to fix my lower Jaw so it lines up with my upper one and widening my upper one) and it'll take me out of action for two weeks at least (maybe more I'm not sure I'll have to speak with my orthodontist and surgeon). So I can't do summer BMQ this year. I was thinking if I really pushed myself I could get fit enough again for weekend BMQ in October. Only problem is, I'm starting college this September and I'm worried about it interfearing with my studies. I've heard weekend BMQ can be pretty stressful since they have to teach you a lot in such a short period of time. Should I wait until summer 2009 to join and do BMQ and SQ all at once, or should I do BMQ, get it over with, and in summer 2009 do SQ and trade qualification?

Thanks for any advice!

Why can't the media get it right?

Check out this story...

WTF is a "Master Petty Officer"?  Why can the Canadian media never be bothered with getting out ranks right, not even the short forms?  I have yet to come across a 'Corp', a 'Pvt' or a 'Lieut Col' anywhere in the CF, but we're all over the place in the Canadian media.  Maybe they need to stop watching so much American TV.

For those members of this community that are in the service, what kind of work out routine do you do to keep in shape for the canadian forces? I want to apply for the Army (Infantry)in 6 months to 12 months time and I have just started working out and was hoping a 6 month to 12 month range was a reasonable time period to get myself in shape. I am skinny naturally and just somewhat out of shape, I would love some helpful info on what I should do workout wise. I know I need to get running, push-ups, and chin-ups. For someone who has never really worked out, what would you reccomend on achieving an acceptable (competative)level of ability for the canadian forces? Thanks for any help.

Basic Up

Was just watching this online and in some places it says it's been completed but on the website it only goes to Episode 5. IS it complete? If it is where can I find it all? Anyone else watch it? Your thoughts?
