Revy - Hi~ <3

PUT YOUR GUNS ON

Judging by what I have seen thus far, Sengoku Basara MasamunexYukimura doujinshi appears to consist of a) HORRIBLE DEATH&ANGST or b) Masamune going "Hey. You. >:D MINE." and Yukimura going "..... eeeeeeeeeeeh?".

I am not objecting to either of these trends, by the by.

I have not felt this compelled to find and write fic for a fandom since GetBackers. God, I love you, Sengoku Basara.

CONFESSION

Final Fantasy VII has absolutely ruined me for bossanova.

It all sounds like Costa del Sol's theme to me.

Enigmatic fluid, huh?

My spoiler-free thoughts on FFXIII thus far:

It's good to see Squeenix carrying on the proud tradition that Last Remnant started of giving you absolutely VILE sounding loot after battle.

Booklog

Books I have recently read or at least started to read! My stash bin at work is kind of excessively full, so I've been on a sort of binge the last week or so in an effort to clear it out.

Generation Kill
by Evan Wright

Okay, so I work in the History and Military History sections at work right now. There are a lot of books about the situation in Iraq and I kind of felt like maybe I should actually read one of them. Despite the extremely dramatic title and subtitle, this isn't a particularly sensationalist piece of work and from where I stand it really seemed quite respectful. It's not an easy book to read (maybe because it's about, a-duh, war), and it was possibly made harder by the fact that I read the entire thing on Thursday all in one go.

The Introvert Advantage by Marti Olsen Laney, Psy. D.

HAY INTROVERTS UR ALRIGHT is basically the theme of this book. It's kind of ridiculously cheerleady at times because the author is kind of a defensive introvert herself, but I can imagine that people less left-brained than me wouldn't mind. She totally owns up to the fact that she's being that way, too, which helps, and it's got some interesting information.

So apparently things I've been thinking were just WEIRD ME are caused by the neurological pathways that introverts use differently than extroverts! We're literally hardwired completely differently! I feel slightly better about being nuts now!

Blood Price by Tanya Huff

I am not sure how I feel about this book. I kind of love that it's set in Toronto because it's always nice to get away from the midwest and east coast USA for urban fantasy, and I like Victoria kind of a lot. Not so sure about Henry. There are a lot of things in the book I liked, I'm just still not sure how I feel about it as a whole.

Clearly this means I must read four or five more books in the series to figure it out.

The Last Alchemist: Count Cagliostro, Master of Magic in the Age of Reason

This book is BORING. Just. FYI. BORING. People who decide they want to write about this time period seem to have a thing about their writing style. I don't know. You wouldn't think you could make a dude who did all this stuff DULL but whatever.

I plan to start this tomorrow! It looks nifty!

dreamblog

Dreams that are not restful include:

Dreams where I am absolutely convinced that I need not just one but two costumes for a play my theater major second cousin (who I haven't thought about in, what, years?) is directing, the play is in three hours and I don't have even part of one!

Also not restful:

Ending said panicky dream with a phone call from my mother telling me that she let my friend's ex-roommate borrow my car to go over the passes in the snow and she'd apparently done something to it. Said roommate has a real life history of destroying cars in optimal driving conditions, so even in the dream I was all "AAAAAAAAAAAH YOU DID WHAT". (I am very fond of my car as it was exactly the car I wanted and kind of a miracle find on a used car lot)

In other news, I am hereby eagerly ordering anyone who might still be reading this to go out and read The Lightning Thief and the rest of the series because they are awesome and cessball agrees with me! Other books that are awesome include Megan Whalen Turner's trilogy of Thief, The Queen of Attolia and The King of Attolia; and I just found a travel book written by Peter S. Beagle, who I have a huge writerly crush on like whoa. Also I'm rediscovering my love of Miss Manners. <3

I haven't felt much like posting lately (probably, uh, obviously, it's been how many months? and how many months between that last post and the one before it? yeah) even about books and I'm way past the point where saying I want to post more even means anything. I guess what I'm saying is that if you're reading this and you've decided that I am the most boring person ever, I totally understand? I'm kind of shooting for feeling like I have something to say here once a month at this point.
