We have focused on the United Nations International Peace Day (Sunday 21 September) this week and complete our celebration with words from our President Alain Tschudin speaking from the world famous Peace Boat. 🕊️ As UNESCO Chair of Education for Peace and Transformative Solidarity, Alain recently co-led a Research Engagement Dialogue titled “Peace Starts with Children: Developing a Mindset of Interdependence”. It was a delight to see AMI 6-12 Trainer Allan Nguyen involved in that session. The voices of children speaking about peace have been gathered by our north American affiliates and can be seen at https://lnkd.in/duTb8fNx For the thoughts of young people in 2010 and much more visit the NAMTA Journal at https://lnkd.in/dn_E-pXf 🌍 Wherever you are and whatever you are doing on Sunday, please accept our best wishes for an enjoyable, productive and peaceful weekend. #montessori #society #voicesofAMI #teachers #schools #educators #education #internationaldayofpeace #global #worldwide

  • Today is the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, observed each year on September 9. Established by the UN General Assembly in 2020, this day draws attention to the urgent need to safeguard schools, students, and teachers from the ravages of armed conflict. Across 2022 and 2023, the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack reported nearly 6,000 attacks targeting educational facilities, students, and educators. Many of these places were used for military purposes, including bases or armories Education should be a haven, not a battleground. Every child deserves safe access to learning, especially in times of crisis. On this day, we stand in solidarity with the millions whose right to education is under threat. We honour the Safe Schools Declaration and international laws that call upon all parties to respect the civilian status of schools. Let us lift our voices for the children whose classrooms have become conflict zones. Safe education is peace-building in action.

  • Celebrating Dr. Maria Montessori’s Legacy  Today we honour the birthday of Dr. Maria Montessori, a visionary who transformed the way we see and support the child. Through her dedication, research, and deep respect for human potential, she showed the world that education is not just about filling minds but about nurturing the whole person, including intellect, will, emotions, and spirit. Her work continues to inspire educators, parents, and communities across the globe, reminding us that when we “follow the child,” we help shape a more peaceful world. “Free the child’s potential, and you will transform him into the world.” – Maria Montessori How has Montessori’s philosophy touched your life? When we shift leadership in our schools, realizing that we are all united in our work and that the interest of the collective is ultimately what supports the growth of all we are trying to do on behalf of children and families we might see a new manner of interaction as a whole school community. How do you begin this shift in perspective and collaboration? What are practical tools that can guide us in this work? Join AMI Primary Trainer, BethAnn Slater on August 19th as she explores: Focusing on Our Own Preparations: Learn how to honour and see more clearly where you are in observing yourself in the moment and where you have come from to get to this work. Reflective Practice Tools: Discover and practice with hands on tools to support reflective practice for all members of your Montessori community – Administration, Guides, Team Members, etc. Creating Patterns of Collaboration: Reflect on the Leadership model that is currently in place at all levels of your school. Explore some possible adjustments that may facilitate all the Team Member’s strengths. Holding the Tone: Develop real take aways that might remind you to use these new tools on a consistent basis - they become habits (like driving a car) and they support all in living easily in this new manner. As we begin a new school year, may this conversation ground us in shared purpose, strengthen our collaboration, and help us lead with clarity, intention, and care for one another and the children we serve. • Children learn through doing things again and again. What may look like simple repetition is actually the foundation of mastery, confidence, and independence. Repetition is not just practice. It is how children build focus, refine movement, and develop their sense of self. Swipe through this carousel to explore what repetition really means in childhood and how you can nurture it at school or at home. #amicanada #montessori

  • Join The Montessori Hive Seminar Series! 🐝📚✨ Looking for a space to explore Montessori ideas, share insights, and challenge your thinking? Welcome to The Montessori Hive, a buzzing online think tank where together we explore big ideas using the Socratic Seminar format. How does it work? For each session, we’ll share a Montessori article for you to read ahead of time. Then, we’ll come together with questions in hand for lively, thought-provoking conversation. No lectures—just real dialogue where every voice matters. Come ready to engage, reflect, and share your thoughts. Join us on Sept 10 as we explore Chapter 4, “The Four Planes of Development ,” from Dr. Montessori’s Citizen of the World. Let’s explore one of Maria Montessori’s profound insights: the Four Planes of Education. In Chapter Four of her book Citizen of the World, Montessori describes four distinct stages of human development, each with its own unique characteristics and needs. She invites us to see education not as a one size fits all process, but as a dynamic and evolving response to the changing needs of the child. Montessori teaches us that each plane of development, from the early years of sensory exploration to the social curiosity of childhood, to the moral awakening of adolescence, and finally the quest for personal mission in early adulthood, requires an environment that nurtures the unfolding of potential. Each plane is an opportunity for the child to grow into a confident, compassionate, and capable citizen of the world. Join us as we delve into this foundational concept in Montessori education and consider its implications for both classroom practice and child development. Please note: To foster a sense of community and protect participants' privacy, this session will not be recorded or available for later viewing. Certificates of attendance will not be provided. #amicanada #Montessori
