art auction for Haiti Relief!

So i was recently accepted into this artist collective called Girls Drawin Girls! its the first time I've been in any kind of artist collective and i'm excited. I will be doing a painting for their upcoming show in February! This will be my first real gallery show ever, not including the ones I did while at school. needless to say I am very excited! they are based out in LA so I won't be able to go to the show, but it's ok.
so they are doing an art auction for Haiti relief with all proceeds from any art sold going to the red cross. so any artist can participate! if you have artwork you would like to donate, please contact them! you'll be able to get exposure for your art while supporting a good cause! I am going to look around my house to see if i have anything i could donate.

check it! buy art for a good cause :)

new blog

So my domain expired while i was in greece and i really don't feel like coughing up 65 dollars for another year for a website that i've had for years but hasn't really done anything for me. my site was cute but very old school. now with blogspot, flickr, facebook and everything else, an old fashion domain isn't really necessary unless you sell stuff or people actually look at it!
so i created a blog! i'm excited because i plan to blog not only my artwork but my inspirations, ideas, and things like that. check it out, and i added some blogs that i had off the top of my head, but please if you have a blog, lets exchange links!!

i'm back!!

so i'm back from my vacation to greece!! it ended quickly and its back to reality :o( bills, bills, work, bills. blah.
it was a nice vacation though. i mean, i was with my parents and i wished that one of my sisters would have been there too but i ate very well, went to the beach and didn't look at a screen for 2 whole weeks!! i checked my email for a few minutes from my uncles house a few days ago and that was it.

i was in athens yesterday staring at the acropolis from the new museum--which is stunning by the way, but NO photography allowed :o( thinking holy crap but this time tomorrow i'm going to be back home.
there were fires near athens but luckily nowhere near where we were... seems like there's fires in greece every summer!! it wasn't even that hot! in Crete in my dads village which is in the mountains it got down to like 70 degrees at night! we needed jackets. apparently they are gearing up for a heatwave now.

so ted kennedy died?? i have had no access to any news because i had not internet and didn't watch TV. we were visiting an old lady relative and she told us some Kennedy died and i guess it was ted, then i read it on a british newspaper really quick.... can't believe he died and got buried all while i was gone :o(
oh and apparently michael Jackson's death has been ruled a homicide???? holy crap i have got to catch up. i am so out of the loop!!

anyway i will be putting pics up soon, hope everyone enjoyed the rest of their summer!!

!!

can't believe i saw these people live and in concert--for free! i know its a very nerdy show to watch but i enjoyed it just the same. oh fyi its Connie Francis and Frankie Valli

i also put up some pics from my trip to DC. it was a lot of fun and i'm so glad i went. i wish i had more time there but there's always next time. we went to visit a friend who works at the National Gallery and we stayed with him over the weekend. it was great being in the middle of DC and not having to pay for hotels. amazing.

i got my new camera and i've been so busy i haven't had a chance to use it at all. i ended up bringing my old camera to DC cause the new camera has some manual functions that i don't know how to use yet, so i want to practice using it before i bring it anywhere.

why couldn't they call it the piggy flu?

sounds so much nicer than swine! poor pigs getting such a bad rep!
they had to close a school 2 blocks away from my parents house because there is a suspected case of swine flu there. isn't that wonderful? they closed down the school at least.
i read that it isn't a confirmed case, but you know how people are they panic. i don't really get what exactly the swine flue does. is it just a flu? from what i read the cases are mild and with proper medication it goes away. i know in mexico there have been fatalities, and there has been only 1 fatality in a child here in the US.

since there is a suspected case so close to home, i will try to pop the vitamin c, and i will stay home if i feel start to feel sick. i don't like to panic but i don't want to be the sick person at work!

on a funnier note, i had a very bizarre dream i was going out with my family and my dad wanted to bring along a pig, but he kept saying it was a hippo LOL. then the pig sneezed on me, and we brought it to a restaurant and it started running loose. i have been remembering my dreams more lately and they are just so weird and stupid. it was funny though. i think i woke up laughing.

Watchmen made by me

(no subject)

i finally saw watchmen. i've wanted to see this for a very long time since i read it. i really enjoyed it. it was very very almost painfully true to the book, which was good for people who read it but may have affected it a little as a movie independent of the comic book--it was jam packed! i don't really have anything to complain about, as this is probably the best it was going to ever get made, considering it was going to get made no matter what thats just the way things are now a days.
my favorite part was the little montage in the beginning. i liked the way it looked and i liked that it covered so much. the nerd in me enjoyed the fight scenes as well. they were pretty bad ass. and snyder could have chilled a little bit with all the slow-mo stuff. not a real problem though. my only real complaint is that the musical choices were really predictable and pretty lame. its like they used the most over used, popular, played out songs from the eras they were trying to portray, especially when they played the sounds of silence over the comedians funeral. i LOVE that song, and it was amazing in the Graduate, but, once a will ferrel movie uses it in a funny way, its time to retire that song from serious movies. the music was also out of place and meaningless at times. i read some random review that said about zack snyder "Quentin Tarantino you are not" as far as music goes, and i agree. but in his defense this is really only his 3rd feature film, and Tarantino is one of those one in a million talented directors, so you can't expect that from everybody. hmmm how cool would it have been if he did watchmen?
oh i should also add the actor who played Rorschach was really good. his Batman voice was a little irritating at first, but thats exactly how i imagined him when reading it. Billy Crudup was exactly how i envisioned Dr. Manhattan as well. Gentle and soft spoke, and kind of monotonous. he was really good, yes i know he was CGI but it was him acting.

all in all i liked the book a lot more than i thought i would, as i'm not really into comics that much, unless they are really, really good like watchmen. i think this movie did it justice and it was done at the right time where the special effects were up to par and the whole thing didn't look cheap or kitschy. no real disappointments from me, and i'd probably watch it again, and buy the DVD (which i don't really do anymore)
