i've got a library question for youuuu so i connected my library card to my libby account and that's the primary way that i interact with my local library, i mostly just use my card to download ebooks and audiobooks. is that just as "effective" as checking out books in person? like, does it support the library as much as interacting in person? if not, i may make an effort to go browse in person more often :3c

Absolutely swag that you connected your library card to Libby!
So my nuance-button take/answer is, yes it supports the library and boosts their usage stats! Libraries want patrons to read how they want to and use their services in person and digitally, and Libby/overdrive contributes meaningfully to usage stats. Libby may also allow you to borrow books from libraries well outside your municipality, and that’s a cool feature!
In addition to making use of library resources and programming, advocating for maintained and additional funding really helps; it is true that digital lending platforms for ebooks / digital resources are expensive to procure and often have different lending licenses than, say, how libraries get to treat purchased physical books.
You’re helping the library by using digital loans, especially if getting to the library physically is difficult. Advocating for libraries politically is another way to help, including by learning more about why ebook and audiobook loans function how they do. For instance, looking into the ALA ebook advocacy page!
