Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Rival Interactions + Status Update

Hi, it’s me again. As you’ve no doubt noticed, I’m linking a video from someone else’s channel, and you won’t find it anywhere on my own channel except in my playlist. What’s going on here? Well, the long and short of it is I contacted the guy who made this video (he also did videos for the other languages in this game if you want to see those) and offered him my custom-made English subs, because I think this is a good video (he practically coded the whole thing with JavaScript and FFmpeg, something I could never hope to figure out how to do), I didn’t want it to be infected with sloppy machine-translated subs, and I also didn’t want people to wait for me to get around to making my own videos (which would obviously not look as cool as his) while the game is still hot off the presses. The part about MTL subs was especially gutting, because not long after the game came out, several opportunistic hustlers took it upon themselves to pump out script comparison videos and update the wikis, and some of the MTLs they were using were not properly conveying the characterization or the humor, leading a bunch of people to think the Japanese script is just weird and/or boring like that. Therefore, I spent more effort than I usually would on these subs, giving them a thorough watch-through pass after the initial translation was done just to make sure every line was not only accurate but also interesting. This may be the longest I ever spent on the actual subbing part of any video. Not even Frontiers took as long to sub. And there’s a Retranslated mod for this game already in the works, too, so check this page every now and then.

Also, yes, in case you are wondering, the audio in the video is like that out of the box and not because of poor editing on the guy’s part. For some ungodly reason, every voice clip in the game underwent some kind of volume-boosting processing that makes some of the lines really muffled and buzzy (I can only assume they did this so they aren’t drowned out by the music, but then the music also sounds muffled and strange in-game), and I know this is something that could probably be fixed with a patch, seeing as how the same voice clips sound perfectly normal in this trailer, for example. I attempted to fix them myself when I first extracted them, but that only made the voices sound a little too strange and my audio engineering skills are just not good enough to go above and beyond like that. I guess lowering the volume on your device might help? Anyway, at some point, I hope to make some more of my own videos of this game, focusing on miscellaneous gameplay quotes or something along those lines. Just let me know what you want.

As for my own thoughts on these dialogues and performances, they obviously continue to be cute and fun and good (despite the not-so-great audio engineering). Assuming the English dialogue came first, Toyoda and friends made a lot of smart, surgical tweaks so that each line is snappy and maintains some of the humor while keeping it in-character (I vastly prefer Japanese Omega, Sage and Charmy in this). Even Eggman seems to sound a little bit better compared to the last time we heard him. I don’t know when his dialogue was recorded and it’s hard for me to form an approximate timeline, but he sounded good in the latest TailsTube dub, so who knows, maybe Nakamura will be back to his former self by the next game’s release.

This is where the video-related part of the update ends. The rest is pretty much just a status update for those who (understandably) don’t go on social media or keep up with my scattered posts on Bluesky or Tumblr. It’s mostly some more whining and you’re not missing out on much of anything important, so you can stop reading here if you want.

Sonic the Hedgehog Official JP Twitter: Commemorative Illustration – Chaotix (April 28, 2026)

Introducing April 2026’s game launch commemorative illustration. 🎨
It’s Vector from Chaotix, which celebrated its 31st anniversary last week. 🐊

His retro look is both nostalgic and stylish. ✨
It’s electrifying to see him surrender to the flowing beat and move to the rhythm. 🎶

I wonder what kind of music is playing in the world beyond the end of that cable. 🎧

Nishiyama Akinori
Position: Lead Scenario Writer for the first PSO
Current Obsession: Totally hooked on LEGO (my wife is)

I think we’ve become what you’d generally call a good company now—we no longer have shower stalls or nap rooms, but we’ve got state-of-the-art IT infrastructure, solid employee benefits, and robust training and education programs. Still, I do look back fondly on those days when we’d stay up late working hard, even if it meant gritting our teeth and bearing it.

SONIC PICT May 2026 – Rouge’s Glamorous Casino Vacation

“Guess I was just a ‘card’ above, huh? ❤️”

Deep within the glittering bustle of Casino Park, in the luxurious VIP area at a house table 🍸, Rouge—dressed in a gorgeous gown—defeats the casino owner with a masterstroke. 🃏

Luck, guts, and technique—the fun of this elegant getaway is just getting started. 🌙

This installment of SONIC PICT features an illustration of Rouge in the middle of a high-stakes poker game somewhere in Casino Park.
Even in real-life casinos, there are VIP areas—places that are truly ultra-luxurious, starting with the length of the carpet pile. It’s a space reserved for the affluent. No wonder even Froggy wants to dress up a bit.

Unfazed by the atmosphere of that VIP area, Rouge hits the casino owner—who seems to have some history with her—with a royal straight flush…! It’s just too cool. The way she draws that last card and flips it open has the air of a true gambler.

We’re all swamped with various things every day, but it would be nice to splurge like this once in a while and feel that sense of relief, wouldn’t it?

New Video: Event Dialogue | Sonic Heroes (Japanese, Translated)

After way too much time, I finally got around to compiling this dialogue collection and sharing with the audience all these fun (and sometimes unused!) interactions they may have had trouble finding in-game on their own. I actually finished editing this video back in late 2024 but only got around to finish subbing all of it today for reasons that will be apparent later. Nowadays I measure the passage of time by the fact that my Twitter account, which got perma-banned at the end of 2024, was somehow restored just a week ago (and I swiftly deactivated it anyway because I’m 27 years old and hate posting now). Anyway, I relied a lot on the voice recording scripts I obtained at the end of 2023 to check that I’m not missing any lines during the editing phase, so thanks again to everyone who helped me get those. That said, I still have player dialogue left to compile, and I’m currently deciding how to organize those particular clips and whether or not I should include the miscellaneous short grunts and quips the characters make that are in a separate sound folder. Probably not though, because my Shadow videos didn’t have them either.

And speaking of scripts, this game’s voice recording scripts open with a schedule for each actor that really gives a sense of how laborious voice acting is. Imagine needing to yap Sonic and Metal Sonic’s soundbites in front of the microphone for six hours. I can’t speak for Kanemaru, but I genuinely have no idea if I’d consider that work or play if I was in his shoes.

So, okay, with this being my first big video of 2026, you might be wondering what my plans for this year are. I do have a list of stuff I’d like to do or keep doing, and it’s what you’d expect (in no particular order):

  • Continue obligatory monthly Sonic Channel translations
  • Continue manga scanlations (or not; more on this in a bit)
  • Sub whatever the upcoming brand new mainline game is (which I don’t think will come out until next year)
  • Empty my backlog of drafts I’ve had on this blog since 2023
  • More dialogue videos
  • Make the Rush Adventure video if I don’t completely burn myself out by the year’s end
  • Maybe sub a few games that aren’t Sonic-related for once (have a good feeling about Metroid…)

Other than that, though, I don’t know. I certainly hope I don’t burn out because I’ve been translating Sonic things and posting my findings on the Internet for 10 years now, but as I’ve outlined before in another update, the current state of Online has made that activity deeply alienating and no longer exciting for me. The public perception of JP Sonic fans as reactionary and contemptible weirdos who want Sonic’s catchphrase to be “I must proceed urgently” because a bunch of 16-24 year olds are being dipshits on social media (but mainly Twitter because Elon Musk is the root of all evil) is more popular than ever as of late, and I’m surely not helping things any by my ESL-brained insistence on keeping the subs more accurate than “fun” (though I should probably point out I have yet to find “fun” edits of my subs that I actually liked). We’re also at an interesting time with Sonic media right now where there’s been a whole lot of content coming out that is Western-made and English-first, and it’s no longer a given that it’s all going to be dubbed (or subbed for that matter, like Murder of Sonic) into Japanese, so there’s not a whole lot I can do there either. I’m honestly worried that within just a few years there won’t be any Japanese-first Sonic stuff left for me to look forward to anymore, but that’s its own post. Anyway, to keep Windii’s Sonic Well from drying too soon, I’ve been shifting my focus towards looking into older stuff and seeing what I can uncover there. I’ve thought about tracking down some more interviews and maybe even dev materials of some of the 2000s Sonic games, like the Storybooks and Riders, but I frankly have no idea where to start with any of that. I don’t know which Japanese magazines actually covered those games and if they are even available for purchase on any secondhand site. Sites like Famitsu also nuked all their old interviews and articles from before 2012 or so, and if no one cared to archive those when they were up, I’m screwed. I’m really starting to feel like archiving the scripts for Heroes and Black Knight was a once-in-a-million fluke I could never repeat again. The problem with Sonic, especially the game side of things, is that there’s a lot of information and interest for the franchise up to 2001 and practically none thereafter until Colors/Generations and then later the movies. So what can I actually do for these games in that case?

Well, I know for a fact that Sonic fans don’t read, so I also toyed with the idea of making videos where I talk about my undying love for Sonic X and other stuff, or maybe compare the English and Japanese scripts of some games, but at the end of the day, I’m not a video essayist, my voice is not appealing, and I’d like my fansubs to speak for themselves—you don’t need a Russian lady with a thick accent to poorly paraphrase them at you. Then again, I don’t want to be typecast into just doing fansub videos either, and I don’t consider subbing to be art, so perhaps I will try to spread awareness and my fandom through some other creative means like fan music videos, drawing and fanfic writing (I just got done writing a story about Shadow buying shoes and having seasonal depression, email me if you’d like to read). I’d also really like to try demystifying 3D stuff for myself and make some goopy models of funny little guys for practice. Maybe my experimental fan film/comic about Shadow and Maria won’t be a pipe dream after all! (let’s not get ahead of ourselves)

Speaking of comics, I am aware that official translations of Imada Yuuki’s Sonic and Shadow manga seem to be finally underway. I don’t have much to say about that besides I hope they will be good and available digitally because I hate collecting physical manga and believe this physical-only practice should be a thing of the past nowadays. And if they are good, I will very likely drop my scanlation of Sonic and the Blade of Courage (which I’ve been quietly posting on MangaDex so my friends could stay caught up) so as to not steal their thunder and let the publisher make some money, but we’ll see; knowing how these things go, we might not get further updates or even a release date for these books until summer at the earliest, and I would not continue my efforts if I was confident there were better translations around.

Thank you for watching my videos. I’m currently looking to upgrade some of my PC parts so that my computer can continue answering to my demands for 4K quality (maybe even HDR if I’m feeling silly) in my videos for a few more years, and I’m still unemployed as fuck so please commission me so that I don’t break my bank buying some RAM or SSDs in the middle of this shortage crisis. It goes a long way and helps me out a lot, plus it’s all in service of making sure the videos always look high quality and awesome, no matter what they are. I love you.

SONIC PICT April 2026 – Tails’s Campus Life

“In other words, maybe it all comes down to this?” 💡

Spagonia University after the weekend. 🏛️
Tails discovers an unexpected fact in the results of the fieldwork the group conducted together. 🦊
This sparks a lively discussion. 💬
The joyful voices of classmates fill the halls of the school as a new season begins. 🗣️

This installment of SONIC PICT features Tails, who is thoroughly enjoying his academic studies at Spagonia University.
Speaking of Spagonia U, it’s a prestigious institution home to world-class authorities in archaeology, including Professor Pickle and Professor Torii. Are Tails and the other Spagonians he’s working with on a group report students here? Or is it some kind of open college?

Either way, a life where you can immerse yourself in academics with close-knit friends is one of the happiest times in life.
May their fieldwork be fruitful and make the world a happier place…!
