Thank you for your suggestions for Christmas presents - my mum loved her Moebius scarf.
So, crocheters and knitters, I need your advice again. I'm rubbish at finding decent patterns.
My Gran is 80 in April, and I want to make her a really nice present. She knitted me a scarf last year, which I loved, and I'd like to repay her.
I was thinking a nice big lacy wrap, preferably crocheted as my lace knitting is painfully slow unless it's an easy pattern, which can be made up in a nice electric blue or pink or jade green lightweight yarn. Any ideas for patterns? I want it to be rectangular, not triangular - shawls are not so much her thing. Oh, and it has to be workable around the time I have left, although I could take it to India to work on in the evenings.
I've been missing you browncardies.
I'm here, again, for knitting and crocheting inspiration! My mum's allergic to wool and doesn't like acrylics, but really would appreciate a handmade present this year. Any ideas of not too complicated patterns and yarns?
I'm looking at replacing my sewing machine quite soon.
Any makes and models I should look out for particularly (or conversely avoid!)?
I am looking for : electric, sews forwards and backwards, zigzag and has (preferably) one of those funky buttonhole feet that looks like a miniature ruler, so that you can sew the whole buttonhole without having to turn the fabric round. Not fussed about thousands of embroidery stitches.
Yes, I would like a treadle sewing machine so that I am free of electrical confusion (I have a tendency to fry and/or upset electrical things) but I don't think I'm very likely to find one :-)
Thanks

Both kids are following a BBC1 series at the moment about some (very) towny, somewhat spoiled kids experiencing life as evacuated 1940s kids.
It's funny to see their reactions to tasks such as cooking, mending clothes, mucking out animals, eating what they're issued with (even if they don't like it much) and gardening.
What's even funnier is listening to our two commenting on their behaviour:
'What's her problem? Porridge is nice. I'm having some in the morning now!'
'Ooh! They're doing bread. I can make that. I'm better at cakes though'
'Mucking out's not that bad, come on!'
'She has an actual fridge in her actual bedroom at home? That's weird.'
'We wouldn't get away with THAT'
And so on.
We appear to have time-slipped (time-slap? time-slup? I dunno...)about 60 years backwards in our house...

Does anyone know where I could fiond character mitten patterns for kids? I do ladybirds, bees and butterflies with crocheted wings but I'd like to find some different ones...
Thanks.
This weekend the kids and I have:
Baked cakes and made lemon meringue pie
Got excited over the fact that the rhubarb is starting to grow
Knitted
Done some hand sewing
Watched 'Kind Hearts and Coronets' and 'The Ladykillers'
I think my Brown Cardy credentials are intact!

Hi there. Just wondered if any of you ever go to craft fairs and know of any in the London area?
Does anyone have a good pattern for knitting gloves on two needles? I hate knitting on four but so far am having little success in finding one. I think such a pattern must exist - I have patterns for knitting mittens and socks on two, so why not gloves?!
