I go by Bridget here and I'm a Filipino-American, born and raised in Hawaii. I currently live on the mainland doing a graduate program, so there are times when I'm super busy with real life and I'm not able to check my flist. However, if there's any post from my flist that I missed and might like, I have no problems with self-recs and links!

Fandom-wise: I'm very multi-fannish and I never quite leave most fandoms that I've spent time in. I currently run Not Prime Time, a medium-sized fandom exchange from about April to July ([community profile] npt_admin). I'm no one's mother, so don't expect me to hold your hand or abide by fake moral bull that's been going around about "problematic" ships. I'm all about that ship and let ship.

Because this journal doesn't have flocked entries, no hard feelings about not giving access since there's nothing here to access.

You can find my fics at AO3 on BridgetMcKennitt.

Urgh, major car issues. A few days ago, I went to the gas station to try and fill up my tank, but it kept clicking off as if it was full a few seconds into pumping. I went to the car repair shop on the 23rd and waited five hours (and $500 later...) to get the canister replaced. The person warned me though that while they're hoping that fixed it, it could be the valve (which they couldn't check until after the canister got replaced) and they couldn't check at the gas station because my tank was already full. Okay. So I drove around and around and went in this morning when they first opened after the holidays and the guy who'd check it wouldn't come in until 10a. Okay. That's 2 hours later, so I'd come back in 2 hours, but when I went to my car and try and start it...the battery had died! I mean, the last time I replaced it was 3 years ago ish and that's about the right time for this state because of the extreme heat during the summer.

A technician dropped me off at home so I can wait here (and they'll pick me up to get me back to the shop later), but that's the valve and battery and while I know the battery is going to be ~$200, I still don't know how much the valve will be. This was all seriously an expense I DID NOT NEED, not now! Especially when a bunch of my annual bills hit during this time of the year and I had to pay for a lot of things for my 2nd rotation (airbnb, scrubs that are a color I won't be able to reuse in hospitals in this state, etc etc). And because I'll be out of state, I won't be able to even deliver food for some amount of money during the 2 months I'll be on rotation.

So I'm just here, quietly panicking to myself.

ETA: I called and the person on the phone said they're 75% sure it's the fuel line tank thingy that the dealership has (so it's a few days out) and it's about $1555. They have one more test to run to make sure it's that/not that. I'm just going to lie on the floor and have a nervous breakdown.

I redeemed a Walmart gift card from Bing so I could try to sell it at GiftCash. Currently, it's pending, but the cash should be arriving via ACH in 10-15 business days. $21.50 on a $25 gift card that I wasn't going to use and didn't cost me money to get the gift card in the first place? Sure! Once this officially goes through, I can go and redeem the other gift cards to sell for cash.

I finished the last of my didactic courses today! I don't have to go back to campus until I graduate next year. \o/ Granted, I'll go back every once in awhile to tutor or to talk with my professors, but that's about it. This feels good. However, since the last few days were spent prepping for the boards (that I'm not taking until July), I don't feel good about that since I know there's a LARGE mountain for me to climb to pass it.

Now I can try and catch up on the days I missed with [community profile] adventdrabbles and read/comment on fics.

My refund from the original airbnb got posted to my credit card and it paid off a good chunk of the 2nd airbnb I booked, but I still have a couple of hundreds to pay off. Good thing I just got paid from work study tutoring, so that pays off a good chunk of that amount, and now I'll just have to earn $13.13 to completely pay off the first payment. At least the second payment for the airbnb is under what I get paid from work study tutoring, so I'll have leftover that I'll put into other credit card debt as the amount would normally go to. Still not happy I'm paying this inflated amount for 2 months /o\

The 2nd airbnb only has a microwave and mini fridge in the kitchen. I can deal with the microwave just fine and I plan on bringing my crockpot so I could cook pasta in that, but mini fridge? Hrm. Not sure if there's even a freezer part attached to that fridge, so that's a bit of a setback as I tend to use the freezer part of my fridge more often than not.

11 Best Places to Sell Gift Cards for Cash
I use Bing and Swagbucks to get gift cards and while I have goals in mind for them, I've been thinking about selling the gift cards from the other accounts for cash. Cash is always good and the one account I used strictly for Paypal gift cards (thus direct cash) is on a super old computer that's hard for me to play videos on it, so it's more of a hassle to try building points on it. But if I can sell my gift cards for cash, then win/win. I technically have enough points to redeem a $25 gift card in something right now, so I could sell it for cash, but I haven't done it yet.

I posted a discussion at [community profile] hikarunogo about Hikaru no Go and Christmas.

There's still plenty of time to participate in [community profile] adventdrabbles! 4 more days and my Erina/Megumi drabble sequence will be complete. I'm having a lot of fun writing to the prompts, though wow, drabbles take me such a long time to complete.

I saw the new live action Mulan trailer which looks great! But no lie, I'm disappointed because this is the one live action remake that I actually wanted to watch...and then found out there's no singing and no Shang. There's also no Mushu, but I don't care about that. All the other Disney live action remakes were basically beat for beat copies, so why the change on this one? Especially since there's already another live action Mulan that was made though wasn't by Disney. I'll think about whether I want to watch this one in the theaters or just wait until it's on Disney+, I suppose.

Ronny Chieng Will Destroy America Standup special 'Asian Comedian Destroys America' premieres December 17 on Netflix. - I'm excited. I think Ronny's hilarious and I can't wait to hear what he says. I also love seeing more Asian-American comedians and their perspectives.

...my airbnb canceled on me today while I was taking my exam. URGH. Apparently they double booked which wtf. The rotation is in the middle of nowhere, so the host basically screwed me over with much fewer spots left to book 8 weeks worth of time PLUS the places are now double or more in price. I booked this last month and they cancel on me with less than a month to go? I put in a reservation for another airbnb that costs several hundred more than my original airbnb, so hopefully I get it. It's currently pending.

So yeah, boooo for me having to spending even more money on this rotation than I wanted, and I already had to do so to purchase scrubs and other essentials while having to live elsewhere. Oh yeah, and technically there's a much cheaper place to book an airbnb (about a thousand less from the 2nd airbnb, but only $400 less from the original airbnb), but it's an hour away. Honestly, I really thought about it, but a classmate convinced me that that's time I won't get back, especially since I need to study for boards. /o\ I need to pass on my first try. I don't have time or money to do it again.

I was going to go and try to do some food delivering tonight, but I'm just too pissed off today to leave the house. Oh yeah, the wifi on campus wasn't working, so I couldn't try and book there. I had to drive in rush hour traffic to do it at home. The salt is real right now.

The Black Widow trailer is out and I love love love it. It looks so good! But urgh, Natasha is dead and the movie is set in the past, so I'll watch it but I'll be sad that it's not set in the present. Can we have a plot twist that Natasha's alive after Endgame? I mean, Coulson lives and Loki and Gamora (different timeline versions, but still) are back, so...bring back Natasha!

I'm 3 days into [community profile] adventdrabbles and I've been writing a drabble sequence in the Shokugeki no Soma fandom, specifically Erina/Megumi. I'm going to try and get 10 drabbles into it so I can post the entire drabble sequence together on AO3. :D I think the next 10 will be a Hikaru no Go drabble sequence? Yeah, that sounds good.

I have a ton of leftovers from Thanksgiving still so almost every meal has been leftovers. Nomnom.

Slowly getting there. I have an exam tomorrow, so reading fics is off the table right now, but I'll pick back up later. Also there's Yuletide in the coming weeks so plenty of read there (I hope).

December points bonus
For the month of December, all orders in the Shop of points and paid time (whether for you or as a gift) will have 10% of your completed cart total sent to you in points when you finish the transaction. For instance, if you buy an order of 12 months of paid time for $35 (350 points), you'll get 35 points when the order is complete, to use on a future purchase.

[community profile] adventdrabbles is going on and you don't have to be in Harry Potter fandom to write your drabbles. :D I haven't participated in it for so long, but I'll try this year. I can do drabbles. I love drabbles. Just gotta figure out what fandom to write in and catch up on the last two days.

Disney+ is horrible for my Hulu queue because instead of catching up on new episodes, I'm busy looking at stuff on Disney+. Also the only reason why I even watched The Mandalorian is because of Baby Yoda. THE CUTEST. I want a plush of Baby Yoda as well as a Funko Pop stat. In fact, I think the latest episode is out today. I should watch it while I do some arm cardio.

1/4 of the way through my fic reading and commenting goal! Since I'm going through exchanges via their Parent Collection (thus seeing multiple rounds in one go), I keep finding comments I've made previously on fics. Which hey, good job past self, but that means I need to find new (to me) fics to read and comment on. I don't need to double dip fics just yet.

I did peck some words in a wip, but really it was mostly editing it because it's been a long while since I last wrote in it. Why are words so hard? Especially when those words need to be plot words? Also I want to write Christmas/holiday type plot but I don't even know how or where to start. /o\

It's cold enough that I'm forced to use my small heater or freeze. The fact that I've stalled for this long is amazing because I hate the cold and I wanted to keep my winter electric bill even lower by not using the heater yet, but it's time. I'm trying to compromise though by turning it on when I absolutely need it, then turning it off again instead of leaving it on all the time...like I want to because it's super cold.

I feel like a slacker because I haven't delivered food in about a week or so, but I've been busy with other RL things. Still, I need to do more because I got bills and things to save for. I also went grocery shopping to purchase premade Thanksgiving food for myself because I don't want to cook this year from a warehouse store, but I also bought a new winter jacket, a 5'x6' throw that's basically my winter blanket (I have two light blankets from the Philippines that's perfect for any other time of the year, but nothing for winter), and long socks because I don't have any and I'll need them for my next rotation. I also need 5 sets of royal blue scrubs, but urghhhh, they're so expensive at the places I've looked so far! And that's just counting if it's a shirt or pants, let alone the both...and 5x a set to boot. This is the most expensive time of the year, for sure, and I'm not even spending money on other people. This is just needing to not freeze or needing to get things together for my rotation. Heck, needing to pay annual bill things!

I was looking at my fic/author subscriptions and dang, so many subscriptions that hadn't updated in years. Sometimes I wonder if I have the terrible superpower of getting authors to quit writing once I subscribe. /o\

Well, I doubt I'm going to make my goal of reading and commenting on 200 fics by the end of November, but I'm just gonna push the deadline to the end of the year. Let's see what happens then!
bridgetmkennitt: (Default)
'Float' is the first Pixar film to feature Filipino Americans It's currently on Disney+ and 7 minutes long, so I watched it. And I cried because it's Pixar and that's how they roll.

I realize now, with Disney owning so much property, I'm able to consume a lot more canons and thus can read fics for them. Like I just watched the first Descendants movie and, in the Star Wars area, it looks like they also offer Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars which tends to be fandoms that a lot of exchange fics are written for.

Though Disney+ doesn't have everything of theirs, not even the relatively new stuff. I wanted to watch the big fight scene at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, but apparently that's not available until mid next year. There's also no Ant-Man & the Wasp. You'd think they'd have all of their MCU movies available in case someone wanted to marathon everything, but apparently not. Good thing those movies are currently on Netflix and I have that.

I've been going from the parent collection of an exchange and browsing fics to read and comment on from there. Let's just say it's been quite awhile since I've browsed through most exchange collections -_-; But even with that larger selection, there's still plenty of fandoms I don't know, ships I don't read, tropes I don't read, etc etc. It makes finding a fic to read in the first place, let alone finishing and commenting on, that much more difficult.

Woo. I got an email about how my Prime Student was ending, but I could extend the membership and pay the cheaper student price if I uploaded proof that I was a student. I submitted my tuition bill from this term and got an additional year! $59 is so much better to pay. Alas, I only get one more year out of since I'm graduating next year, but I'm happy I got what I could.

I now have Disney+ bundle, but it was pretty confusing before and after the fact to find out the information I needed. Like, I can't actually watch the Disney stuff through the Hulu website, nor on the Hulu app. I have to do that on a separate Disney+ website and app. My Hulu bill stays separate since I already had a Hulu account and so my Hulu gift cards will never pay for Disney+. I'm still not sure what I need to do to activate the ESPN portion of this bundle, but I will.

I did the responsible thing by backing out of going to AYCE sushi tonight with some friends, as well as backing out of going to Friendsgiving with my classmates at a buffet in a week or so. They're both pricey events and I can't really justify the expense, especially since I don't want to stuff myself silly in order to eat the cost of the meal in the first place. Urgh, adulting. I also did some food deliveries today because I am on a never ending quest to make money/pay off my debts.

10% of the way through my NaNo fic reading and commenting goal!
bridgetmkennitt: (Default)
I'm still pecking words into this wip, but I also realized that I have a folder filled to the brim of fics/collections I bookmarked for months but never actually read yet. I should read them! So my NaNo goal instead is to read (at least) 200 fics and leave feedback on them. It's a big goal, but why not? And, to make it fancy, I'll track my progress with a counter. :D

I went to take out the trash and I immediately regretted it. Yesterday I went to a free event that was a gym class and it was both fun and hard, but oh man, my legs are definitely feeling it today. My walk is the classic "Why are you walking funny?" "Leg day." Just walking down the stairs hurt and I'm glad I canceled the food delivery block I was supposed to do in a couple of hours. I was supposed to go grocery shopping to meal prep for this week, but maybe I'll make something else instead and use that. We'll see.

Instead I'll continue doing chores around the apartment and continue writing practice board questions for myself. The latter is nice because a) I'm studying while I formulate the question and multiple choices to use and b) I'll be able to take these quizzes in the future when I don't remember the answers. I'm so so nervous about taking the boards. I've personally known people who failed more than once and I don't want that to happen to me! So I'll prepare now to get myself ready for later.
bridgetmkennitt: (Default)
Study: Actually, potted plants don't improve indoor air quality I currently have a plant, but it's sitting just outside my apartment door for sunlight. I've been meaning to organize an indoor garden of potted plants, but I haven't gotten around to doing so yet. I'll probably still use those type of plants meant for air quality though lol.

It's a few days away from Disney Plus launching and I am impatiently waiting for it. I'm going to get the Disney Plus/Hulu bundle, but that means waiting until launch day before I can even pay for it. Well, I say pay for it, but I've been using gift cards from Bing and/or Swagbucks to pay for Hulu for years, so.

I've been haphazardly looking at letters from Yuletide and there's one (two?) things that always slightly bothered me about some of the letters I see, and it's definitely just a me thing. The first is that the letters don't list what the actual characters they requested. Sometimes the letters don't even mention any characters at all! Or if they did mention characters, you have no clue if X and Y were the ones they requested, or just X and they wouldn't mind Y.

Which also leads into, since Yuletide is a character based and not relationship tag based exchange, I have no clue if the recipient is okay with ship or not. This mostly is a thing when the recipient is talking about two women and I'm over here like, "...but are you okay with femslash of these two? Or just gen?" And I'm cool with either! But I'd really like to know before I ever think of writing a treat because sometimes I want to write femslash and I'm not sure what the recipient wants. Nor am I going to assume. I don't know why, but I come against this situation more often than not with femslash vs slash.

Nanowrimo exists and I have been pecking words into a wip. I'm not officially doing Nano, but it's good to actually be writing something after a long while of not writing.

Prodigal Son is ridiculous and I enjoy watching it so much.

I loved seeing my classmates on campus today, but I am so over classes already. Not that I'm ready to go onto my next rotation, but eh. I'm spending this time making a solid schedule and plan for when I take the boards next year because I want to pass on my first attempt.

I'm also procrastinating by researching various aspects of having my own small business. There's so much I want to do and I have time to organize it, so I might as well.
bridgetmkennitt: (Default)
I passed my first clinical rotation! It was exhausting, but I learned a lot and I did well.

It sucked though that I didn't have a lot of time to do anything else, including trying to read fics or write pinch hits, but I have a couple of months before my next rotation, so maybe I can do some of that during that time. Also, I was right, I'm not in this city for my second rotation. Ah well. I reserved an Airbnb in that new location and it won't be for long.

I binge watched seasons 1 and 2 of SWAT on Hulu and I really liked it. I wasn't expecting to, but it exceeded my expectations.

I'm also keeping up with Stumptown and I'm liking it. I heard it got picked up for a full season, too. Woot!

Dear Prime Time Player,

Thank you in advance for writing in one of my fandoms. My AO3 name is BridgetMcKennitt.

I like femslash, slash, het, threesomes/moresomes as you can tell from my various requested relationships. I like reading explicit as much as I do non-explicit. Don't feel you need to write a certain way because you don't. I've listed many different, varied options for each fandom below, and I would be thrilled with whatever road you decide to take.

I do have some likes and dislikes when it comes to fics. I don't expect you to use everything in my kinks/likes section, and I wouldn't want you to as a lot of it doesn't work together and/or doesn't work for a particular fandom, so don't worry about that. Just please don't write my dislikes and I'll be a happy camper.

Likes: Character driven plot, worldbuilding both big and small, alpha/beta/omega, smut/PWP, threesomes, bondings (forced or otherwise), obsession, tension, misunderstandings, subtle flirting, fluff, dub-con, non-con handholding (or whatever non-con non-sexual situation), kidfic, mpreg/fpreg (or preg in general, I don't have a particular person designated as the pregnant one), established relationships, foodporn or other non-sexual things described in loving detail.

I'd like happy endings for any fic you write.

Dislikes: Crossovers, first or second POV, character death, crack, bashing, not!fics, unhappy endings.

Fandoms: Ao no Exorcist | Blue Exorcist, Batman (Movies - Nolan), Captain Marvel (2019), Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (TV 2018), The Chronicles of Riddick Series, Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, Hikaru no Go, Justice League (2017), RED (Movies), Wonder Woman (2017)

Day 4

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"

I commented and kudosed on someone's AO3 fic, and then subscribed to them.

Day 5

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

[community profile] npt_admin: Not Prime Time, a medium-sized fandom fic exchange. It runs from April to July and this year will be its 8th round.

[community profile] anime_manga: A comm for all anime/manga things. There are weekly discussions on what people are consuming and you can post your anime/manga works. It's a nice catch-all, whether or not your anime/manga fandom is big or small.

[community profile] fandom_icons: So many icon batches from so many people and I enjoy browsing through what gets posted.
