...somewhere along the way it must've felt irresponsible for horror to exist as a genre of heightened emotion. the culture's reactionary tendencies started to kick in. horror had to be liked and appreciated and we needed a reason for the wrongness. fear and desire needed to be analyzed, made coherent as repeatable commodities. we lost a taste for the inexplicable, unless this inexplicable quality was knowingly employed, a gesture toward lovecraft or lynch or anyone else u can point to in order to be as superficially legible to others as possible. — audrey
