hello, i’ve decided to make a pinned post after like 7 years on this site. i’m a professional entomologist but spend most of my free time drawing. i picked this username while drunk many years ago and now i’m committed i guess. i usually go by ascalaphid elsewhere

tags
i have tags for art and photos. i sometimes do pixel art or craft dolls and figurines. a lot of my art is of my character trungo or other bug people. i occasionally talk about movies

commissions
i’m not doing high or even medium effort commissions anymore but i am always taking $5 bug doodle commissions on ko-fi

other accounts
@cnestus is where i post bug photos
@bowelflies is where i reblog stuff i like

other places to find me:

personal website
ko-fi (selling stickers on here now!)
INPRNT
redbubble
letterboxd
artfight
bsky

Pinned Post also if we're mutuals feel free to dm me for my discord handle

This is apropos of very little but I think observing sister Dot & sister Helga for a day would restore my faith in a lot of things. If you ever feel like taking a commission for them (i know you do those very selectively!), you can find me sitting in the monastery's bell tower looking a lot like this -> 🥹

thank you! i love them too. and i’m pretty much always down to take comms of my own characters. my commission email is ascalaphid[at]gmail dot com

related asks while i’m at it:

she’s a virginia opossum but i think its fine to call them possums for short. as an insect taxonomist i know too well how colloquial names for organisms are always gonna be imprecise and regional so there’s no reason to be pedantic about them

image

yeah honestly you gotta be pretty desperate to conscript a bunch of opossums into your army. shit must have been getting dire in whatever war was happening during the flashback.

I was thinking to myself about how I tend to enjoy different styles of art, and I came to the conclusion that your art hits that perfect level of anthroporphization for me the same way Richard Scarry or Beatrix Potter illustrations do. Just animals doing people things very pleasantly and at an animal scale. Much appreciated.

nothing against your standard issue furries of course but this is definitely my vastly preferred style of anthropomorphism as well. love a funny little animal guy.
