Come join landofart! Land of Art is a pan-fandom graphics Land Community, where different teams compete for points in a variety of challenges over the course of several months. Not confident in your artistic abilities? Not to worry! There are a wide variety of challenges available (some don't even involve making graphics!), and most points are earned through participation. Don't worry that Phase 3 has already begun- people come and go all the time. It's a lot of fun, and please do mention my name if you decide to sign up. ;)
I did a bit of a friends cut, so if you're someone who posts less than once a month, never comments and/or I don't know anything about you/who you are, I hope you're not horribly surprised that you've been cut. However- I tend to get a little click-happy as I breeze down the list, so if you think you've been removed in error (entirely possible!) please speak up! :)
Okay, so I can't promise that this tutorial will be very useful to anyone, as we all use different programs to make graphics and we all have different font packs installed, textures available to us for use, etc. But you might find it interesting to see how I do things. :) (Although I would like to apologize in advance for being so wordy, I can't help it. By the time I'm done I just know this is going to end up becoming a giant wall of text. XD)
Today's icon tutorial is all about replacing background images!
Especially in the last two or three months, this is something I do a lot. (And I used the exact same technique on all of them, so for the most part a tutorial of one of them will basically show you how they all came about, more or less.)
Well, here they are! All of the icons I made for lemonpunch's iconfest. I really have no idea what half of these things are that I made icons of, at the beginning of the fest my only factor in picking which requests to fill was 'is the provided image interesting/pretty?' and at the end I was just trying to fill as many requests that had one fill or less.
I have a question for anyone who'll answer- should I make an icon journal/community for myself? Pros: I'd make individual tags for everything/sort stuff better and all of my icons would be in one place. Cons: ...I don't know, but I'm sure there's a downside.
About the icons themselves, most of them are really just one icon plus several alternates- because I was going for speed I just saved all of the different ones instead of picking the best to present. And many of these icons were made in 5~10 minutes. (Some near the end were under 5 minutes!)
And as a last note, because of that semi-recent tinypic debacle, I've temporarily decided to stop using tinypic to host my icons and I reuploaded everything to imgboot instead.
