Picking New Headshots, SUITS is Phenomenal, and Jen's Kindle Fire Giveaway

Over two months. It's been OVER two months since I checked in here last. So, I thought it would behoove me to at least stop in and say hi, see how folks are doing, that sort of thing, since I feel like I haven't talked to a bunch of you in about a million years. There have been a few developments in the last couple of months, but I'll try to keep things reasonably brief so this entry doesn't just run on for days and days. Here, then, is Jen's life in a nutshell:

Call for Fic Recs for BW Magazine: Bones, Castle, Mentalist, Hawaii 5-0, TGW, OUAT, Fringe

All right! I'm now officially 89% of the way funded on my Kickstarter campaign... With $270 to go, this is the big push. I don't want to start counting my chickens before they hatch, but I definitely have my mind focused on a new issue of BW Magazine, as I promised would happen if I'm able to reach my goal. So, now comes the content question. I'm looking for your very favorite season premiere episode tags of this year for Bones, Castle, The Mentalist, Fringe, The Good Wife, Hawaii 5-0, Once Upon A Time... Essentially, whatever you dig right now, I'd love to include in the magazine. These are obviously fics that have already been published, and that's okay -- I just want recommendations to get things rolling, and then we'll go from there.

I'm also looking to ask a few very basic questions via e-mail of folks who have attended Paley and/or some of the larger cons out there (SDCC comes to mind, but others count, as well), as that's an article that will be included in the magazine. The fabulous biba79 already put in her two cents and gave me some great insights, and now I just want to round that out for the piece I'm writing. So, if you've attended any of the above and would be willing to answer a couple of questions, just leave a comment or PM me here on LJ and I'll send those questions out straight-away.

As for my contributions... I've posted the New Girl fic, the first part of a 2-part Castle fic -- the second part of that goes up tonight, along with a seriously steamy second part to the Bones Honeymoon fic I started ages ago. So, you can look for that stuff tonight. Thank you a million times over to my fangirls here who have pledged -- you guys are just awesome. The address for the Kickstarter campaign again is www.erinsolomononkickstarter.com, and in all sincerity every dollar really does count at this point. And if you haven't subscribed to BW Magazine yet, just head to www.bloodwritesfanfiction.com and scroll down a little ways until you see the BW Magazine Castle cover on the right sidebar and beneath it the big red Subscribe button. And don't forget to leave a comment with any fic recs: Pretty much any fandom, existing fics (unless you want to write one specifically for the magazine, of course), season premiere episode tags no longer than 2500 words. Submit your recommendation with a link to the fic, and we'll go from there!

Castle Fic: The Precedent, Part 1/2

Title: The Precedent, Part 1/2
Synopsis: Episode tag to 5x02 - A late-night conversation between Castle and Beckett... And a little make-up sex is always good for the soul.
Spoilers: For 5x02, but nothing beyond that.
Rating: K+ for the first part, T/light M for the second.

Note: One of the things I often think about with this whole Castle/Beckett thing is just exactly who carries more baggage... Because, sure, Kate has the whole "Mom's been murdered and I've spent my entire adult life building walls so I'm never hurt like that again," thing, BUT she also had an entire eighteen years growing up in a stable home with two loving parents who were, by all accounts, deeply in love with one another. Castle's upbringing? Not even close. And then he's got two failed marriages, so... Yeah. I know the popular portrayal in fic is that Kate's all vulnerable and uncertain and Rick has to walk her through this whole thing and teach her how to trust, but honestly I just don't think that's necessarily how it will run. Or how it should, anyway.

New Girl Fic: Reality Bites

This is my first New Girl fic, but I'm crazy about Nick and Jess so figured I would give it a shot. Set in the current (second) season.Of course I own nothing. No copyright infringement intended, no profit made. I fic because I love. I also wanted to let people know that I"m running a Kickstarter campaign to help finance production and promotion of the third novel in my Amazon-bestselling Erin Solomon mystery series... If I can hit my goal of $2500 to fund production and promotion of the third novel in my Erin Solomon mystery series, I'll release a new issue of the digital fanfic magazine I run at bloodwritesfanfiction.com. I only have until shortly after midnight on October 6th, so please consider pledging whatever you can (a $5 pledge would be hugely appreciated... $15 and you're my friend forever). You can find the campaign at erinsolomononkickstarter.com. Thank you!

And now... Onto the fic.

Do you ever have those days that you just know will be awful? And you don't know how you know, exactly, but you wake up and look at the ceiling and no matter how hard you try to give yourself that morning pep talk, you just know…

Today is going to be awful.

Jen Hits Kickstarter

Hey all! I know I've been absent for... Well, forever, but things have been sort of mad since releasing the second novel in the Erin Solomon series. Now I'm running a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for production and promotion of the third novel in the series, SOUTHERN CROSS. I know times are tight, and people are asking for cash for books and campaigns and kidneys everywhere you turn, but I'm now 65% of the way to my goal of $2500... The money raised in the campaign goes toward hiring an editor, ordering a larger print run than I've been able to afford to this point, and launching an advertising campaign when SOUTHERN CROSS is released. I have until this Saturday night (technically Sunday morning, at 12:54 am) to get the full amount; if I don't hit my goal, I get nothing. If you haven’t already pledged to the campaign, here are a few reasons that I hope will make you consider taking the plunge. Backers are appreciated at every level, from $5 to $50. To learn more about the campaign and to pledge, visit http://erinsolomononkickstarter.co…. Thank you so much!! . And if you're not a fan of the series yet, as part of promotion this week, both ALL THE BLUE-EYED ANGELS and SINS OF THE FATHER are available on Amazon Kindle this week for just $.99.

A few things you can expect from SOUTHERN CROSS…

1. There will be Sex. I’m not saying who’s having it with whom and under what circumstances, except… Well, clearly Erin will be involved. And if all goes according to plan, it will be a satisfying moment for all concerned. Including you readers.

New Bones Fic! And a Free Book! And a $50 Amazon/B&N Gift Card!

Greetings, f-list. Sorry for all the freaking exclamation points in that subject line -- I sound like a car salesman. "It's UNBELIEVABLE! 90 Miles to the gallon! Runs on rainbows and the dreams of starry-eyed children!"

UM. Sorry -- I think I'm a little overtired. :) ANYWAY... I've just posted the first two chaps of a new multi-chapter Bones fic on my BloodWritesFanfiction site. It takes place directly after the season 7 finale. There are no season 8 spoilers that I know of, but there is a serpentine plot and a little bit of angst (okay, initially there's a lot of angst, but I promise we're past it by like chapter six or so), and some lovely B/B good times. And Christine, of course. Don't forget Christine! I'll be posting the next two chapters tomorrow.

I'm running a couple of promotions at the same time that I'm doing this new fic, which means you can go to the first chapter of the Bones fic and enter to win a $50 Amazon or Barnes & Noble gift card, a signed print two-book set of my Erin Solomon novels, or a custom-made pair of "Blue-Eyed Angels" earrings a fan who is a jewelry maker designed for me. I'm also offering my first novel in the Erin Solomon series, ALL THE BLUE-EYED ANGELS, free on August 15 and 16, with the second novel in the series, SINS OF THE FATHER, on sale for just $2.99. Sales have been very strong for both books so far and reviews have been awesome, but I'm hoping to be able to climb the charts a little more with this promotion. So... If you could spread the word, I would be hugely appreciative.

And that is all. Hope y'all enjoy the new fic offering -- It was so fun to write those guys again! Hope everyone's having a great summer!

Bones-y Question

Hey all... Quick question:
How old is Christine? There's a possibility that I MAY be writing a Bones fic... Or at least it seems to be shaping up to be a Bones fic. But I'm holding off on making declarations until it's actually finished, rather than keeping folks up in the air for years upon years. Soon, I expect I'll let y'all know. But first, must know:

How old is that kid?

Jen's Book Trailer!

Hey all you fine folks, Hope you're managing to stay cool wherever you are... It's supposed to hit ninety today with mad humidity, same as it's been the last couple of days. Plus PMS is kicking my ass -- I think I've been gnoshing non-stop for like three days. There is no bottom to the pit that is my belly right now. Ah, the fun. I don't feel like I can bitch too much about the weather, though, given everything happen in the Midwest. Yikes. Very glad I live in Maine right now, where the most we typically deal with is a few feet of snow!

Anyway, I thought I'd post an update along with the book trailer I (finally) put together for ALL THE BLUE-EYED ANGELS, because I figured mebbe y'all could check it out and let me know if you think it looks all right. I think it's okay myself, but it's so hard to get a good perspective on that kind of thing, you know? I'm doing a big sales push for ANGELS at $.99 in the hopes that I'll be able to move a goodly number of them and climb the ranks, thereby getting folks interested in picking up the sequel.

I had my big book opening/release party this week here in town, and it was amazing -- A great turnout, everyone super supportive, and I sold out of books by the end of the night. Very, very cool stuff! I've been fiddling with fic-y stuff since finishing the novel, but I shan't say anything until I actually have something finished; my head's so all over the place these days, there are way too many projects I've started and never completed to get anyone's hopes up. :) But I'm at least thinking in that direction right now!

ANYWAY... Hope everyone's doing well. Here's the book trailer. Let me know what you think!

Jen's New Novel Is Out... Time to Read Some Fic!

It's been a mad, mad, mad past few months, trying to crank out the next book in the Erin Solomon series in record time. I'm very pleased to report that Sins of the Father is now officially out -- you can pick up a copy on Amazon for Kindle here, or Smashwords for Nook, Kobo, and all those other sundry e-readers here. If you feel like it. No pressure, though... You're a free people, you really can do whatever you'd like. :)

The novelling process was an interesting one this time -- I feel like I've gotten to know Erin and Diggs and the gang so well now that they just kind of write themselves... And throw a huge hissy fit when I try to make them do anything they'd rather not. Now I'm in that weird nether-world where I've finished one novel and am not quite ready to start the next one (though I don't think that will last long -- Diggs is whispering sweet, tormented nothings as we speak)... Life is always a little more anxious, a little bit... wider, somehow, just after finishing a big project. Like I've been underwater for months, and now I suddenly need to relearn walking and talking among the rest of the world. Plus there's that dread bit of waiting for people to read it, because this is the part of the process where my overriding thought is, 'Oh God. It's out there, and it's probably terrible and I've just flushed my short-lived career straight down the toilet.' I wonder if that feeling ever goes away?

Anyway, enough with that nonsense. I really love the novel, personally -- Mostly for the places I got to go with Erin and Diggs, and it's always fun to play with characters when the stakes are as high as they were in Sins. So... Yeah. We'll wait to see what the rest of the world says, but I personally really loved writing this one. So, there you go. Phew. Glad we got that figured out!

And now, I'm looking for a few good fics to get me back to my lovely people. Who's read good ones this summer? My top picks for shows, in order, are The Mentalist, Castle, and Bones. Short or long doesn't matter; sexy tiemz always preferred. And it's gotta be Jisbon for TM, or I'm just not interested. Recommendations?
