Summary: Jared is a very successful goth/metal rock star used to hiding beneath a mask, but two years after the death of his father, he has had enough of hiding, of being something he doesn't recognise, and finds himself journeying home to Scotland. The house, estate and garden that his father left him need some work, as does Jared, but more importantly he discovers that his first, and probably only, love (Jensen) is still there, and is now running a successful market garden and keeping Jared's mother's rose garden in full bloom. Jensen agrees to help Jared renovate and restore Jared's home but he was badly hurt when Jared ran away to become a rock star. Jared, himself, finds it difficult to be back in Scotland - he had his reasons for running, but he begins to understand that the conclusions he came to when he was seventeen might have been based on bad information. In discovering the truth and tending to his mother's garden and helping Jensen out with his, Jared realises the value of home, of Jensen and also finds himself, and its a long way from the tortured, dark soul that was his alter ego.

Artist: blondebitz Author: lullysg Title: The Sound of Silence Pairing: Jared/Jensen Rating: NC-17 Summary: Jensen is deaf, and he starts teaching American Sign Language classes at his college after losing his job. Jared is forced to take ASL as an elective class after a dare from his roommate Chad, but he's immediately bothered by his teacher for some unknown reason, and ends up being a jerk to him, also refusing to pay attention to his classes. One night, Jared is walking to a bar and is attacked by three guys who beat him up. Jensen finds him and tries to call for help, using his voice which he never does since he's ashamed of it. Jared ends up with a brain injury that causes aphasia, a temporary loss of speech. He doesn't know who saved him, only remembers a voice.
Chad convinces Jensen to help Jared, since he's feeling very down after the loss of speech, and asks Jensen to teach Jared ASL so he can communicate. After a rough start they are able to bond and become very close, with Jensen teaching Jared much more than just a way to communicate, and realizing he has also a lot to learn from Jared in return.

I decided to go with the changes in appearance Spike has donned over the years....technically, the first one is William the night he became a vampire, but I consider that the first and biggest change ...and I'm sure we aren't going to quibble over petty technicalities! :D
