For me a big part of “sex work is work” is that sex work should be socially viewed as totally legitimate work. I should be able to put sex work on my resume. I should be able to lean on the skills and knowledge I gain in this field and have that experience be respected. Right now I have a gap in my resume. But I’m also consistently doing advertising, social media management, inventory, merchandising, customer service, upselling!!! I’m working self directed, I’m solely responsible for every aspect of my business. I deserve respect, fuck.

“If voting did anything they would outlaw it.” Is such an insane take to me, because literally all of human politics for recorded history has centered around Outlawing the Vote.

In the US alone: we didn't let women vote. We didn't let people of color vote. We eventually let Black people vote... And then immediately curtailed that by introducing grandfather laws, literacy tests, citizenship tests, and other Jim Crow bullshit. It took another fifty years for (white) women to gain the right to vote. It took longer for indigenous Americans to be recognized as US citizens and allowed to vote. People fought and died to get the Voting Rights Act passed.

And it's still not enough. Look at all the people who can't vote. Anyone without an address: anyone who's homeless or running from an abuser. People living on reservations don't have official addresses, so they're effectively homeless as far as the law goes. Anyone with a felony conviction (in most states). That includes people whose "crime" was simply doing drugs... And obviously, this population is mostly Black. You can't vote if you can't get to the polling center, which limits people who can't drive getting to the polls (the elderly and disabled).

They're trying to add a requirement to need an ID to vote, which is going to limit people even more. People without all their documents (like people who ran away from abuse or whose abusers stole or destroyed their documents) can't get licenses or official IDs. It's hard to get an official ID even without the driver's test. And remember, most Americans DON'T EVEN VOTE.

We have some of the lowest turnout worldwide. They are still trying to limit this further.
