I'm not sure if this is allowed in this community, but I really would like for this pup to find a good home. If anyone in the New England area is looking for a companion dog, preferably without kids or other animals (though as the Dog Whisperer has taught us dogs can be reconditioned if given the proper attention), let them know!

Here is his petfinders page which includes the number of the shelter: http://search.petfinder.com/petnot…
Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this, but he's been at the shelter since last May and I figured if anyone would know of someone who would like to adopt an older black lab it would be lab lovers :).

i have been noticing this summer that sometimes when Big Bear gets up his rear legs fall out from under him and or he can't use one or the other rear leg for a few seconds, then he is fine and walks like nothing is wrong. He doesn't jump on my bed to sleep with me at night anymore, yet my mom says he is up there all day every day when I am gone at work. I am really worried. He is going in for surgery tueday for removal of lumps in his 'arm pits' and one on his side. I am going to ask the vet if maybe she can feel around and see if he might have one starting on his spine. The lumps were tested and THEY ARE NOT cancer. But he does have some small spots that get really puffy ,crack, then bleed on his nose that I am going to have her take off as well and check for cancer.
Could this just be he is getting joint problems and or arthritis? I am so worried its more then just that - he is only 8 years old!

pet insurance
Does anyone have any experience or insight into pet insurance?
What do they cover and not cover? Are they worth it? Do most vets accept them?
thanks.

puppy questions
I've been reading a few books on puppies and labs in general. While some do differ slightly, for the most part they say the same thing.
So I've got a couple specific questions.
1) When would it be ok to take her for walks? In the beginning I was planning on just taking her out back to do her business, mainly because I didn't think she would be able to walk very far. Plus I wasn't sure about meeting with other dogs. She'll have 1 set of shots when I get her.
2) Tips on introducing her to my old and grumpy cat? I'm positive my cat will try to dominate the dog. She's done it with other dogs which I think is hilarious. But she may just fall over from a heart attack.
3) I would like to introduce her to our neigherbors dog. Our back yards share a fenceline and while the other dogs won't see her, I know they'll smell her. They are very friendly dogs, but I don't want it to be to soon.

New Puppy
Hello all. New to the community.
In 2 weeks we pick up our new black lab. We're still coming up with a name, but Casey is at the top of the list right now.
Here she is.

I had a lab a loooong time ago and I'm a bit rusty so any info is greatly appreciated.
I'm specifically looking for any books and websites on raising lab puppies covering the basics, grooming, care, potty training, socialization, dealing with kids etc.
thanks

I am posting this in all pet communities because I think this is informative for pet lovers. If you would like it deleted please just say so.
I advise you do NOT buy from tagxpress.com / pet-id-tags.com
I recently bought two pet ID tags online from tagxpress.com / pet-id-tags.com, the lettering is uneven, some of the letters are so close together they touch & the brand new out of the envelope tags already have scratches on them. Because I was so unhappy with the product that I received, I emailed the company asking to be able to return the product & be refunded ( Collapse )
