Outlining the show

Some script examples and story boards for fun!

Funny how Roderick mocks Gwayne's size when just days earlier he himself chickened out of a 2v1 against Criston, who is ABSOLUTELY the same build and height as Gwayne.

Easy to be brave (with an army at your back) until you run into Cole.

And this is despite Cole's army being so exhausted from hunger and lack of sleep that men were just dropping dead, and EVEN THEN Cole, without armor, remained a fucking threat, killing 12 men like it was nothing.

Maester, I feel so weak, what will cure this ailment?

You know I wish house of the dragon actually interrogated incest as a tool used by families to consolidate power and within families to dispossess women because aside from being played for shock value the Aemond/Daemon mother-fucking dreams kind of went nowhere and of all families the HIGHTOWERS!!! seem to be used to demonstrate the point that incest is an abuse tactic (wrt Otto > Alicent and Ormund > Daeron)

Like dawg why are we presenting the uncle/niece 2 for 1 combo of alyn and baela and daemon and rhaenyra as somehow morally ok incest couples. Why did the only interrogation of what dameon did to rhaenyra happen in s2 with those harrenhal dreams and then he was somehow absolved of everything by believing she should be queen because of a prophecy.

What are we doing here.

thing is, they're not even treating daemyra & baelyn the same bc even if the 3.02 scene w corlys implicitly recognizes them as kin, the age diff is never acknowledged. showverse hull boys are ~10yrs older than her but ig she stopped being a kid the moment jace died and is fully empowered to seduce her adult uncle? at least nyra & ali were kinda shown as groomed in s1. reminds me of how laena started out younger than them in s1 only to make viserys look less creepy for choosing alicent, but adult laena as daemon's wife is played by an actor older than d'cooke so there doesn't even seem to be intended hypocrisy when daemon says he spared rhaenyra as a child by eloping with an even younger teen relative. unintended implication is black girls grow up faster & daeron gets to be young and innocent in a way baela/rhaena do not despite them all being around the same age.

HotD try not to play into black girls being fast stereotype challenge impossible.

GRRM was right saying she killed herself for no reason. She was just told Aegon is out there alive and kicking which is the most hopeful news she could get enough to encourage her to hold on for longer with her daughter and her unborn baby. She also knows Aegon will be king again.

This is what Martin has been mocking for years and seeing all those butterflies flying away is a literal nail on the coffin for logic and character motivation.

At least she had the decency of correcting the colour of her clothes in the tapestry she made, lmao

No wonder for at least 30 minutes everyone genuinely thought this was legit.

Kind of wish the faux leaks were real cause then we’d actually get a reaction to Helaena’s death.

Daeron’s character arc of breaking free from Ormund’s control is now damaged if not entirely ruined because Ormund is dead and Daeron had no part in Ormund dying or even overcoming Ormund’s control.

We also don’t have Daeron telling Gwayne that Ormund made him kill an innocent man. No final confirmation for Daeron to assert himself. Daeron doesn’t get an arc in this season and doesn’t get to do anything. He’s a McGuffin character for Gwayne and Ormund to fight over.

He’s so little of a character that he doesn’t even get to earn his epithet, he’s given it cause the writers remembered ‘oh he’s called this’

YouTubers giving these episodes even generally good reviews are being paid and I cannot be convinced otherwise

Legitimately they are getting something out of it. Whether it's direct payment or some type of industry favor or benefit with HBO, like allowing them early access to content and episodes or not targeting their videos to try and remove them, there is some kind of pressure for creators to lick the boot and cozy up to the mega corporation butchering the story.

I used to respect creators like Glidus and Alt Shift X and had faith in their ability to critically consume ASOIAF media. With HOTD however they've been attempting to explain the show as if it's some complex thing that book fans aren't somehow understanding, parroting the behind the scenes featurettes about what the writers intended to do vs what they actually did. A lot of cope framed as "actually this is quite smart if you do these mental gymnastics and put words into the writers mouths/fill in the blanks with your own imagination."

Other YouTubers are just here for content and reaction clips. "Oh my god that just happened!" Okay and? It made no sense and was meaningless. Glad you could get a clip for a YouTube short.

Then when there are YouTubers attempting critical analysis and daring to criticize the show, mostly small content creators, not only do you have casual fan cope flooding the comments but also HBO the mega corporation actively targeting these content creators and trying to get their videos taken down repeatedly.

There's benefit (and cowardice) to spinning HOTD as positive no matter what.

GreaseGoblin and John Constantine have become the only ASOIAF YouTubers I can trust to actually review this show. They’ve also gotten attacked by hbo copyright for their videos soo…. We know hbo is playing favorites

my boy joffrey just woke up from his season long nap and his mom is talking in latin about prophecies and killing the pope. i'm calling CPS

Bro was so confused. “Mommy, I just wanted a bed time story”

George R R Martin was right, Helaena’s death doesn’t have a fresh horror to make her end herself. From how the show is laid out, it makes it look like she either foresaw her own death and did it, was saddened by Tumbleton so did it, or she hated being force fed so did it.

Helaena killing herself because she knows she’s a prisoner doesn’t make sense for what has been established earlier because she’s so adamant about making sure her baby lives and wanting to be reunited with Jaehaera. She is depressed but she is not suicidal. As someone who’s been in this mindset, being depressed and self harming does not make you automatically suicidal.

Emergency meeting at HBO

Racist 1: Hey boss, you remember our plan to make House Velaryon Black?

Racist 2: Yes, stroke of genius, it's a nice and safe way to get diversity points while still keeping it white.

Racist 1: Well, not exactly. See I've been running the numbers, and we have an alarming situation on our hands. By the time we get to the Dance we're looking at six major black characters on our screens.

Racist 2: Six? We can't handle six!

Racist 3: It gets worse sir. Half of them are black women.

Racist 2, panicking: Shit. Three whole black women?

Racist 3: Actually four black women when you count Marilda-

Racist 2: Who the fuck is Marilda?

Racist 3: Addam and Alyn's mother.

Racist 2: Oh phew, we can just say she's dead. But what are we to do about the rest?

Racist 1: Well for Addam and Alyn there's a simple solution. It just so happens that there are two other white dragonseeds absolutely no one cares about, we could put the spotlight on them instead?

Racist 2: Perfect, excellent idea. Can we do the same with the black women?

Racist 1: Unfortunately no, but what if we tried merging two of the black women into one character?

Racist 2: That still leaves us with two black women. We couldn't possibly handle more than one. [Slaps hand on table] Think people, think, we're on the clock here.

Racist 3: We could put the other black woman in a half assed love triangle with her two uncles. That way we efficiently roll three storylines into one minor sideplot, and they won't take up the space we urgently need for Larys and Aegon's bro trip, or another Targaryen hallucinating fucking his mother in Harrenhal.

Racist 2: Promising, promising.. but is it enough?

Racist 1: Hmm... What we need is another white character to balance the scales. Audiences might accept two black women if we add a white.

Racist 2: Any existing characters we could work with?

Racist 3: Alysanne Blackwood?

Racist 2: Another woman? Good lord no, we're already asking too much of our audiences. It has to be a man.

Racist 3: Well there's Cregan Stark, Benjicot Blackwood, Rhaenyra's other sons Joffrey, Aegon, Viserys-

Racist 2: -Anyone from Team Green?

Racist 3: ...Ormund Hightower?

Racist 1: Hmm, we can make him a main too, the more whites the better, but on his own he's a little too mass murdery. We need a white male hero on team patriarchy so our conservative viewers don't feel personally threatened.

Racist 3: [triumphantly snaps his fingers] I've got it! Gwayne Hightower!

Racist 2: What does he do in the book?

Racist 3: Absolutely nothing!

Racist 2: Perfect! Make him a main character!

Racist 1: Bravo!

Racist 2: Drink up lads, crisis averted!

[Clink glasses]

Racist 2: Wait, what if the woke crowd notice what we're up to?

Racist 3: Eh, imply Gwayne is gay and they'll forget all about it.

If Tywin Fucking Lannister wasn’t willing to kill his own son he hated with his own hands because kin slaying is a giant crime and sin, why would the much more religious Alicent want to kill her own son?

Ryan do you remember kin slaying is really bad? Do you?

It is not the same though. Aemond IS the kin slayer in this people forget. (I am talking about Aegon, not Luke).

Aemond is a very instable frightening man who tried to kill his brother, took the power for himself as regent, and threatened the safety of his sister. And oh, he is equipped with a nuke.

Alicent is well aware she will be forsaken and a sinner for her actions in her religious mind but does it anyway because at this moment it is the only course of action for her.

I love his character but people need to take a step back and look at the whole picture regarding the male characters in this story. Yes he is fascinating, full of fractures and vulnerabilities but he IS a danger to everyone.

Okay, let’s take a step back and really LOOK at this.

No one knows where Aemond is. Vhagar can’t be found. The ONLY REASON Alicent knows where he is because of Helaena and Rhaenyra forcing her to go kill him if she wants Helaena freed. (All very contrived and breaking many characters)

My main issue (pay attention here) is that Alicent has no issue being a kin slayer. She doesn’t bring it up, doesn’t push back, doesn’t even go ‘you’d have me condemn myself?’ Or some shit. She’s acting like he is not her child she’s being asked to kill.

Am I saying she should not kill him? No, I’m saying that the internal conflict she should be facing based on this world that she has grown up in and is a deeply religious person in does not make sense for her actions.

My point is (pay attention again) Tywin Lannister is a more ruthless, power hungry, and less religious person than Alicent YET he does not kill Tyrion himself. He outsources that to others because even he does not wish to be condemned as a kin slayer.

I like that Baela has a personality now but her just saying Rhaenyra’s character faults out loud was goofy. Very second screen viewing

Same thing for Mysaria’s line to Helaena like “your child is a hostage” yes girl we watched the show, we all know that and so do all the characters this is really for people who were playing subway surfers

It really gave ‘we need to make sure the audience understands this’ and it was very very clunky
