Somehow, I managed to mess up a pumpkin bread mix. The damn thing didn't rise at all! I'm going to say the mix must have been defective. ;) *sigh* I've been hearing there's a shortage of canned pumpkin, so it might not be any easier to make it from scratch.
Well, I don't know if I can fully welcome fall the way I normally do. This summer was quite the let down, weather wise, so I'm not ready for the transition. *sigh*
That being said, I made a delicious apple crisp. I LOVE apple crisp. I should have some for breakfast tomorrow. It totally makes up for the chili that's too spicy.
Today was productive. I ran a few errands and cooked like a fiend. I made a chicken recipe in the slow cooker - chicken with 40 cloves of garlic. OMG, so good! I also made a blueberry crumb cake, mini fritattas, and butternut squash soup. So, we definitely won't need anything else for breakfast this week. :)
The soup turned out okay. A few months ago I had an amazing butternut squash soup at a local cafe. I thought it would be a good idea to make it at home. It was decent, but not even close to the restaurant version. Maybe I'll try again in a few weeks, but I have a lot of soup to go through on my own.
The late afternoon was especially nice b/c my little brother stopped by for dinner on the way from visiting his gf. I'm really glad he stopped by.
Today my boss and I were being interviewed for a newsletter by one of the communications managers. We're talking about the office and a bit about ourselves.
During the course of the interview the communications manager asks if I've done any acting because my presentations are "engaging and you seem very comfortable up there". *squeals* How awesome is that!? I thanked her and said it was mostly due to a rigorous graduate training, and knowing the data really well.
After years of presenting in school and not doing as well as most of my classmates, it's nice to hear that I do good work. :) So happy!
I keep hearing that it's a good show, so I got the first couple of discs through Netfilx. I don't get it at all. It seems a bit random. Does anyone watch it? Does it get better after the first 6 episodes?
So, the strawberries we picked yesterday aren't very tasty. They are beautiful looking berries; deep red and plump. But they don't taste like anything at all. They don't even smell like strawberries. I'm so disappointed...and I have 6 quarts to deal with.
Just eating them plain really isn't an option. I froze 3 quarts last night and made a small strawberry & cheese pie last night. It was pretty good. I think I'll use some in a spinach salad. And then I'll have to figure out something else.
Had to fill out the first thing that asked for my age. It took me a second to realize it was 28. Weird.
I'm kinda tired, but I don't want to go to sleep just yet. Adam's injured thumb freaked me out a bit when we took the bandage off. I thought I was going to be sick for a few seconds. That's the first time that's ever happened. (Plus, I started to worry maybe I had caught the bug he had earlier this week.) Not good timing because we have Ribfest tomorrow.
