TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) addendum

Just received a thank you from EFF and they included following to send to my friends. I invite you to do
same:

I just sent an email to my lawmaker demanding transparency in the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations process. The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a trade agreement currently being negotiated between the United States and eight other countries. Like ACTA, TPP is being negotiated in secret and on a fast timetable. Entertainment industry executives who are members of the Industry Trade Advisory Committee get to see the drafts, but the rest of us will be kept in the dark unless we speak up now!

Personal note:
Sad commentary isn't it? It is not enough to stuff their pockets with PAC $$$$$$$$$$$$$ and
lobbyist $$$$$$$$ but now behind closed door shenanigans with TPTB who want to determine what is acceptable for the rest of us.

STOP TPP NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!................here we go again....................>:-/

PLEASE:

  • read,

  • send a message to your congressional rep and

  • pass along to others to do same.

Dear Rosalee:

Right now, representatives from nine countries including the United States are secretly meeting in a luxury hotel in Beverly Hills to negotiate the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, a trade agreement with the potential to contain intellectual property provisions that go beyond ACTA. These secret meetings could create over-reaching new rules and standards that will choke off the online speech of individuals, websites, and platforms accused of copyright infringement.

But because the meetings are held behind closed doors and the text has not been released to the public, the citizens who will be affected do not know the details and don’t have a voice.

Click here to join EFF in demanding a Congressional hearing so lawmakers can learn what’s in the TPP and hear from all affected stakeholders, not just the content industry.

Yesterday, EFF International Rights Director Katitza Rogriguez checked in with protestors outside ongoing TPP meetings in Los Angeles. Katitza reported:

The energy at the rally was intoxicating. And the people were right to protest: TPP is one more in a long line of global copyright initiatives that are putting Internet users last. All over the world, people are saying enough is enough.

This week of negotiations in Los Angeles is a crucial moment for the TPP. Please contact your lawmakers today and let them know that we will not be left in the dark. Demand to know what's in the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement.

Eva Galperin

Status Report: PIPA/SOPA....hopefully ACTA also!!!!!

Late last week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) decided not to move forward with an important vote on S. 968, the PROTECT IP Act.

"PIPA" and its House counterpart, "SOPA," the Stop Online Piracy Act (H.R. 3261), spurred a rebellion because of the effect they might have had on the Internet. Now the bills have abruptly stopped moving.

Read more in a recent blog post entitled: "The Internet (Community) Fights Back."

For those of you who live in the UK this can be done with ACTA also. They must be stopped.
Sign that petition and contact whoever in your area.
Let them know you will NOT put up with it.............

BenderSpink Adapting Prohibition Era Sci-Fi Turf War Comics 'Turf'

December 5, 2011
Source: Dealine
by Alex Billington

It is high time for comic book adaptations they're getting picked up all over, even after Cowboys & Aliens. Deadline reports that production company  BenderSpink (A History of Violence, Red Eye, The Hole, Leap Year, Arthur) has picked up options to adapt the Image Comics series Turf, written by Jonathan Ross, illustrated by Tommy Lee Edwards. Instead of mixing just two genres, this time they mix three - 1920s prohibition era gangsters (which is when this is set), vampires (not the Joss Whedon kind), and aliens, all fighting for turf (oh my!). I haven't read the comic, but it looks quite interesting, just from the covers alone.

The gangs of New York are either dead or in hiding. The cops are on their way to tackle the Dragonmirs, a family of blood drinking Strigoli (that's vampire to you and me) from Romania. But the bloodsuckers have set up a little reception party for the Cops on Brooklyn Bridge, and things don't look too good for New York's finest. Mankind's last hopes rest with former Gang Boss Eddie Falco, now telepathically linked with the Alien Squeed from Anth. Together they head to Harlem, where they must persuade The Reverend Samuel King and his men to join with them and confront the monstrous threat that the Dragonmirs are re-awakening... the first vampire, the 'man-killer'... 'the Old One!'  (Via)

HORSE SOLDIERS.........a true story of heroism

I just read in an article in The Film Sage where Bruckheimer wants to film a screen adaptation of Stanton's Horse Soldiers:

(True story features mounted Spec Forces. . .read more:)

From Amazon:
In this absolutely riveting account, full of horror and raw courage, journalist Stanton (In Harm's Way) recreates the miseries and triumphs of specially trained mounted U.S. soldiers, deployed in the war-ravaged Afghanistan mountains to fight alongside the Northern Alliance-thousands of rag-tag Afghans who fought themselves to exhaustion or death-against the Taliban. The U.S. contingent, almost to a man, had never ridden horses-especially not these "shaggy and thin-legged, and short... descendents of the beasts Genghis Khan had ridden out of Uzbekistan"-but that was not the only obstacle: rattling helicopters, outdated maps, questionable air support and insufficient food also played their parts. Stanton brings each soldier and situation to vivid life: "Bennett suddenly belted out: 'It just keeps getting better and better!' Here they were, living on fried sheep and filtered ditchwater...calling in ops-guided bombs on bunkers built of mud and wood scrap, surrounded by Taliban fighters." In less than three months, this handful of troops secured a city in which a fort had been taken over by Taliban prisoners, a tangle of firefights and mayhem that became a seminal battle and, in Stanton's prose, a considerable epic: "Dead and dying men and wounded horses had littered the courtyard, a twitching choir that brayed and moaned in the rough, knee-high grass."

I guess I don't have to say how much I would love to see Joe do this..............at least be in it
I hope he at least auditions for it.
My real fear is Bruckheimer will take the flip it to you mode e.g. POTC which is fine but I think we all realize they were hardly the jovial, fun loving bunch that has been portrayed on the screen.
I also fear the midget Cruise or Bruckheimer's fair haired boy Cage, will grab it up.
Sad because this book is thrilling from the first few pages. . .
The article did state that it would feature same level of warfare as Black Hawk Down.
Finally, my apologies for not posting the article here, but LJ will not let me do it.
I love how they tell me 'problem with entry' but never specifies what the problem
might be. . .
