THE GENERAL OOC CATCH-ALL POST

ASHLEY
A young witch who agreed to take up working as a game programmer for some reason or another. She is rather self-important and is often fairly self-confident as well, but she also tends not to be very expressive most of the time unless she's feeling angry, disappointed or offended. Sometimes, though, it almost looks like she'd like to have some friends.

all you have to do is grab stuff and move it around! but, i'm sure you'll still find a way to mess it up!
BACKGROUND What is provided in the MarioWiki articles is pretty much what there is to go on, considering the general lack of plot in the WarioWare series as a whole (beyond "a bunch of people make games and Wario is greedy/lazy as usual"). However, it is fairly safe to assume that Ashley never really went out and did anything not seen in or otherwise implied by any of the games, instead spending most of her free time in her mansion just doing witch things or focusing on her few other interests, though the more-recent games of the series do show her making at least some effort to be social. Social-ish. An attempt is being made.

It's also implied that despite her age and unless you count Red (and a sentient spellbook that has had only one appearance to date within the series), Ashley lives on her own and is possibly not in regular contact with her parents. (source: an official in-character blog, with a translation of Ashley's post found here) The reason for this separation from her family is not known, but being on her own might possibly explain why she'd accepted work as a microgame programmer in the first place. At the same time, despite Wario being Wario and not paying her (unless he's forced to), she appears to be well enough off, so it's reasonable to think that despite her apparent separation from them, her parents still support her.
PERSONALITY Despite being from a series that mostly has no real story to it beyond Wario being Wario, Ashley as well as most of the other characters are presented—by means of numerous minor details, various small cutscenes, and the above-mentioned in-character blog—as having fairly distinct personalities as well as obvious likes and dislikes. What follows is basically an extensive extrapolation based on these.

Ashley easily gives off an impression that she isn't much of a 'people' person; she is easily-annoyed and largely refuses to express any real emotion other than varying forms of irritation or boredom, and she does seem to be rather solitary for the most part. She dislikes interacting with others and can be somewhat uncomfortable around larger groups of people, though her coworkers appear to be at least a partial exception to this. While she does present herself as uninterested in the idea, she does seem to be vaguely interested in making friends, and people who treat her well enough, so long as they don't become annoying or overbearing, will be treated reasonably well in return. Though she does have a softer side and may let it show a bit around anyone she does see as a friend, she does not particularly like it when anyone tries to suggest that she actually has one; though she might look the part at times, she generally would rather not be seen by others as "girly" or "cute" or anything like that. Also in regards to her interactions with people, Ashley is a bit guarded when it comes to dealing with people; she must be fairly certain that she can trust them first before she will be anything even remotely close to pleasant. Even then, there are only a very select few people who she will be absolutely truthful to. With the exception of any such trusted individuals (within WarioWare itself her best friend is stated to be Red and she doesn't appear to mind most of her coworkers, and in other Nintendo things it has been stated that she is pen-pals with Nikki, the Swapnote mascot), many interactions with her will often be straight to the point as to be over and done with as soon as possible.

Her primary interests are found in magic, masks, food, certain kinds of music (or maybe mocking the kinds she doesn't like), and dark humor; she is implied in canon to be a fan of Sekaiichi Asakura[1]. All of these interests are presented in some form or another during her segments in the WarioWare games, including Asakura being mentioned by name in WarioWare: D.I.Y.. She also has some skill in programming, which it is also assumed that she does enjoy making (and playing) games to some degree, else she likely would have only been present for one game in the entire series. When dealing with any of these things, her usually-unpleasant demeanor might slip just a little bit and show brief shades of the girl hiding underneath, though it doesn't usually last long, especially not if she's aware that someone might see her. Unless it involves one of her other interests in some way, she has little interest in the arts; it doesn't matter how good that drawing you made is; she will probably not care unless it's somewhere along the lines of zombies, creepy masks, or zombies wearing creepy masks. Giant monster zombies wearing creepy masks? Now you're talking. She also doesn't scare very easily; actual monsters, demons, and the like tend to get responses ranging from her being mostly-unimpressed to being actively interested in them.

While Ashley has no problem with things or subjects that she does find to be interesting, she generally dislikes wasting her time on things that are unrelated to her interests, which probably makes her a bit of a problem child when it comes to school since most subjects likely wouldn't really interest her in the least. The only definite exceptions to this—and this is only given her role in canon as an amateur programmer—would be computer courses. Math is a possible exception as well considering its relevance to programming, but everything else? Nope. If she doesn't simply ignore the uninteresting things outright, she will sometimes try to pass them off onto other people to do them for her, whether these other people are willing or not, and she will become impatient if the task at hand begins to take too long. Additionally, she can be somewhat of a perfectionist on the tasks she actually does undertake, as failure is often answered with an obvious disappointment, and she can be fairly-unforgiving—sometimes even cruel—to people she feels have let her down.

Ashley holds herself in particularly high regard and tends to blame various outside factors—people involved, things used, et cetera—rather than herself when things don't turn out how she expects, but while her own inexperience may be a factor at times, she isn't necessarily wrong to put at least some of the blame others as most of the time she has some kind of assistance, even if it's just her familiar. She does keep herself on-track toward whatever current goals she has, which makes it fairly difficult to distract her, but at the same time it can occasionally border on obsession, which leads to her being very angry if anyone or anything manages to successfully sidetrack her or otherwise cause her to screw up whatever she's doing. While she prefers to stick to familiar patterns, she isn't afraid to change it up a bit for the sake of variety, and is usually open to trying out new things (provided they're somehow relevant to her interests).
KNOWN ABILITIES/SKILLS Ashley is a witch, so her skills revolve around various sorts of magic, generally implied (and occasionally shown) in the games to be curses, transmogrification, and other less-than-pleasant stuff, usually with some sort of childish bent to them, with WarioWare: Get It Together! placing a particular emphasis on turning things into food. Any reasons she has for being a witch are never really expanded on, thanks to each WarioWare game's minimal amounts of character background or overall plot.

Having a noted lack of experience in her earlier appearances, her spells previously had a tendency to fizzle or not do what she had originally intended; at least two points within the WarioWare series had shown that she needed outside assistance in order to get the results she wanted, and it was noted that without that assistance, she was only successful about 40% of the time. Later games have shown that she's improved significantly since her first appearance, with WarioWare Gold in particular showing that she no longer has any major difficulties.

Like most of the named characters in the WarioWare series as a whole, Ashley is one of the microgame programmers, which carries an obvious implication of at least some level of programming knowledge, but likely not anything particularly complex given the simple nature of microgames as a whole.
