Nobody expects you to know everything a veterinarian knows. But, don't sell yourself short. Many of the problems a dog faces are similar to those of our own. Until you can get your dog to a vet, he or she will depend on you. And, sometimes the care you provide along the way will make the difference when you get to your vet. Having the supplies you need on hand will really help you to be effective.

You can also find some great blood-clotting topical products too. Hydrogen peroxide is an effective disinfectant . An old clean blanket is essential for wrapping a dog in shock. We frequently give a product called Nutrical to dogs when they appear to have a low blood sugar. A first aid kit should also include: ammonia water, antibiotic treatment, hydro cortisone ointment, eyewash, and antihistamine. Also, absorbent cotton, gauze rolls or pads, scissors (preferably with rounded tips), tweezers, a rectal thermometer; syringes (without the needle) for giving oral medications, elastic bandages, an enema bag, soap, and a plastic bowl for preparing dilutions.
Take some time to read those books you have in your doggie library. They will help you get familiar with first aid procedures for your dog. But, don't delay taking your dog to the vet when needed. Keep your vet's phone number handy in case you need him. If you think your dog may need professional care in the middle of the night or on a weekend, consider calling your vet and advising him. He may have some good advice or instructions to help you reach him.

Simple And Effective Solutions For Aquarium Algae

Eradication of encrusting algae could be done simply by periodically scraping the sides of the aquarium or scrubbing the rocks.
For those with plastic plants and a completely white gravel bed, the situation could be more tasking as it would be necessary to bleach the rocks to remove all traces of algae.
However, if you do this, do make sure that you rinse the gravel thoroughly afterwards. Bleach is highly toxic, and even small amounts can have a drastic effect on the aquarium fish.
Since the primary cause of green algae is too much light. The fist step in the treatment schedule should be light reduction then partial water changes and an adequate stocking with natural aquarium plants. A final treatment with an algae remedy should ensure that the problem is eradicated and is at least kept at bay for some time.
One of the factors mentioned above is the use of natural aquatic plants as a means of algae control. This is really more effective than many people think.
For a start, luxuriant plant growth will filter out some of the light keeping algae in check. In addition plants absorb a large variety of chemicals from the water, thereby starving algae of some of their essential nutrients e.g. nitrates (not nitrites).
Surprising as though it may seem, an adequate plant stocking level is approximately 50 small plants per square root of available space.
The treatment I mentioned is the use of an algaecide. I must stress the word "use:" it is very different to "abuse"!
Yet despite this difference, I know that some people will still persist in pouring the chemical remedy into their aquarium and expect the problem to disappear overnight, even though they have done absolutely nothing to alter the conditions in the tank that brought about the problem in the first place.
The conditions I stated above have to be adhering to for any lasting effect to occur! Now that we know how to curb the menace of the green algae, in another article I shall discuss it's ugly "sister" brown algae (the brown encrusting algae whose case is the reverse of green algae).

How is everyone? This community is so dead, but it should be picked up again. I've had two amazing days recently that I want to share.

About a week ago I went to 6 Flags. I rode Superman over and over. And it was pourring rain but we went on this wooden coaster anyway, and we were pelted by raindrops and it really hurt but it was so hilarious. We were soaked through on our front and by the time my friends and I reached the car, we were soaked through on the back. It was uncomfortable, but amusing.

And yesterday, I went out with my best friend and my mom, and we saw Mad Hot Ballroom. ((http://www.paramountclassics.com/m…) It's a documentry about the public schools in NYC, and how they have to take ballroom dancing classes, and then there's a whole big competition at the end. I desperately want to take these classes now. Hehe. After, I met my dad at Bertucci's where we had amazing rolls, salad, & pizza! Oh it's so good. And then, I got to see all of my friends at Friendly's and I've barely seen anyone all summer.

I'm working a lot & having lots of fun. Now, I just need to get myself to some concerts, and I'll have a complete, happy, summer.

i've spent so much time without my friends...
that avoiding the people who i wish to avoid has become too damn easy, because they just dont bother anymore. as of today, it has been exactly one week since i've seen any of my friends. two days since the last phone call, which i made to a certain female who used to be very close to me. she swore she'd call me back.... and voila, day 7 of loneliness passed by as uneventfully as the other 6. well...i suppose i could get upset by this, and i suppose its not too late to admit that i am, but in all honesty, this is giving me a chance to express the independence from society that i've always dreamed of having. i had hoped that it would happen somewhere outside of my parent's house..so that i could go do stuff by myself that is interesting and not just sit on my ass every day in front of this box. but really, this is a huge learning experience. i've always been the independent type, bragging that i could just pack up and leave this world behind, the people the places, everything, and do what i wanted when i wanted (all the stuff kids dream about doing when theyre grownups with no responsibilities and an endless supply of money). and i still could because i'm too proud for my own good. i love being alone when i'm moving, but not when i'm forced to stand still.
i hate this. but really, its bringing me 6 steps closer to how i want to live. and as much as it sucks, i really like this.
