Earlier this week we had a mom come in to drop off a prescription for her teenaged son. And she let us know that they'd recently legally changed his name so it was different on the prescription. My pharmacist was like that's fine, we can change it, we don't need to see the court order we just need to make sure it matches the insurance for billing, etc. And she said "his name is James* now but it's in your system as Kenna." And I (other side of the pharmacy) went "Oh, good for him." And she zeroed in on me and yelled "YEAH! GOOD FOR HIM! :D"
Anyway after she left my pharmacist was like "I'm not entirely sure what's going on here." And I had to be like "Dude. He's transgender."
why do so many freaks go right to “there should be exams or tests before you have kids” when the real solution is better social services, robust infant and child development education that is accessible both financially and schedule/distance accommodating, and resources throughout any stage of a child’s life. genuine question like did you think about any social development before going straight to eugenics
my silly two cents on why I don’t think ao3 ever needs an official app are that
- it works just fine as it is
- if it has an app, that means it has to be approved by appstore / google play store, that means there’s a very real and high chance of appstore and play store “banning specific contents from ao3”, leading to censorship. so this goes against ao3’s core principles of being against censorship.
I think we’re so used to every single thing being an app that we don’t realize not everything has to be an app. the “should ao3 has an app or not” discourse wasn’t around before until recently, and there’s a reason for that.
also worth mentioning that all the “ao3 apps” you see are third-party apps (and these apps usually have ads). as of the time this post is being made, ao3 does not have an app. so all the “ao3 apps” you see are not affiliated with the actual ao3 in any way, shape or form. so be very careful giving these apps your login info and/or other personal information.
ao3 is a house of the freaks and the perverts (affectionate). you ARE in the house of the freaks and the perverts. so don’t think about harassing or being rude to the freaks and the perverts who built this anti-censorship house and are kind enough to let you in.
ao3 is proship, profic, and anti censorship. being proship, profic, anti censorship, and hosting dark and taboo fics that were banned on other platforms are the main reasons ao3 was created in the first place.
you are welcome to join ao3. but you are NOT welcome to harass, act rude or be entitled towards the people who built this house. if the fact ao3 allows fics you find disgusting (even though it also allows you to filter out anything you don’t want to see) bothers you so much, you are free to go back to wattpad and have nearly everything censored and banned there.
people complaining about ao3 site “not looking aesthetically pretty” is so funny to me because it’s super clear these people are used to wattpad and other social media platforms where you can have aesthetic layouts, but what they fail to understand is that ao3 is an archive. it’s a library with the purpose of keeping/storing/archiving fanworks. it’s not a social media.
also, you can technically make your ao3 page look aesthetically pretty by applying your own customized skin/layouts on your own ao3 page. according to people who use their own customized skins, it’s easy once you learn how to do it (I personally don’t know how to do it because I’m not interested in learning or applying any fancy skin, and I just use dark mode there) it may not be as easy as decorating twitter or wattpad layout, but that’s because the purpose of ao3 is to archive fanworks, not to be a place for users to show their aesthetic layouts.
once again, ao3 is a non-profit organization, an anti-censorship archive/library that welcomes all kinds of fanfics/fanworks. it doesn’t prioritize “looking aesthetically pretty” because looking aesthetically pretty like a social media platform has never been relevant to its purpose.
just watched a star trek episode about a planet that relied so heavily on it's computer system that they all forgot the basics of their own knowledge. and that allowed them to miss the fact that they were being posioned with radiation and nearly ending their civilization. because they couldn't use their own knowledge to figure things out. i bring this up for no reason in particular

This is the funniest new thing I’ve learned today about the Swedish/Danish cultural exchange.
The Swedes have these adorable cakes called Prinsesstårta aka Princess Cakes.
When I saw this I thought “Oh! I know those! We have the same thing here in Denmark!”
The same thing? These beauties.
I persent to you, the Kajkage aka Kaj Cake. They’re smaller but pretty much made of the same ingredients and they have fan clubs dedicated to finding the ugliest versions at bakeries. They’re named after the frog Kaj from an old children’s show.
I have a strong suspicion some Dane saw a Prinsesstårta and thought “If I added eyes and a mouth…”
